Is it against Google TOS to just have a "search engine"?

So lets say you have a domain that gets good type in traffic... would it be allowed to basically just have a page with a google search box on it?

You mean Adsense for search? Of course it is against the TOS, it is a no-content website then.

The other option is to have very basic info and why not an ad or two from adsense link ads (not the adsense for content) and the Adsense Search.

Yes this is what I was planning, I should have been a bit more clear, but the main focus of the page would be the google search box... Just want to make sure I cover my a$$

I find reading the google tos a bit confusing because these things don't always get spelled out that clearly..

If you only have the search engine then it is against the TOS.

Just put at least a paragraph of relevant information and you should be OK.

Take a look at Blackle.com to get an idea of how to effectively implement the search.

I am very interested in this as well. So you are saying, all you need is a couple links at the bottom? Not necessarily content on the page with the search.

Yep, marketing goes a veeeeeery long way, but only if done correctly. I also run my own search engine called AskGeek and use adsense on this and have never had any issue.
