Yes, the backlinks won't remain. You've got a genuine PR6 until the next PR update, which should be at least 3 months off, (est. Jan '07):

It's up to you to exchange links with other PR6 sites, or establish backlinks before the next update happens. Or you can just put up a simple links page and link to all your other domains, to pass the PageRank on.

These sites were not directly linked to from the PR8 site, they were all linked from 3DN.org, which was itself linked to from the PR8 humanitarian site.
