I don't like to talk about race either. I know it can fuel some very volatile temperaments. When I talked of Asian-American and European-Americans, I wasn't really talking of race, but a general classification based on geographical relations. I apologize if anyone took that as being related to race and took offense.

Guys please do not laugh at me.

I placed around 70 names in the landrush line freezing some assets before I learned there is going to be an auction run by registry and administrated by Pool.
Names I had in mind are, probably, the best of the first row of premium names (best of the best).
I am not going to participate in auction so there is almost no chance I’ll get a single name out of it.

Now waiting for the refund in Feb.

If you read my post, I said that Asians are AMONG THE MOST educated, not THE most educated. There's a world of difference in those two sentences. And yes, I do maintain that Asians are among the most educated - at least the ones who are on the internet. The standards of education in math and science are very high, and hence the huge outsourcing boom.

I'm in the US currently, and the current generation of Europeans here (mostly those who have been here for the past 100 years) don't really have very strong ties to their home countries. I know Italian-American college kids who haven't been to Italy even once in their entire lives, Irish-Americans who haven't set foot in Ireland. This isn't something unusual since the European immigrants have been a part of the American landscape for over a century now, and are as much American as any other. Yes, the Chinese too came at the same time, but never in such large number. Moreover, the Chinese were not able to integrate as much into the American society a 100 years ago as well as say, the Irish or the Italians. Why? Because at that time, racism was pretty rampant (keep in mind that until the civil rights movement didn't start until the 1960s - and the Chinese (or anyone not white) before this period could not integrate into the American society as well as an Irishman).

So the comment that the Chinese and other Asians came to the US at the same time as the Irish and the Italians - while based in fact - is not really relevant because the Chinese and other Asians could never really occupy that place of relevancy in the culture a 100 years ago. How many Chinese-American or Japanese-American or Indian-American politicians, movie stars, music stars, etc. can you name? On the other hand, there have been tons of Irish-American and Italian-American people in these fields. Heck, Hollywood was practically rebuilt by Italian-American people in the 60s and 70s (Scorsesse, Pacino, De Niro, Coppola, etc.).

wrdekle, if you hadn't noticed, I'm from India. I have lived 19 of my 20 years there. I'm in the US just for my college (I'm studying English and Films btw) and I will be going back to India as soon as I finish school. My girlfriend is still in India, and I still make about 3 trips back home (mostly to be with my girl - I can afford it thanks to domaining

) in an year. So yes, i CAN state that I know Asian people. I'm one of them myself

And while I can't say for Japanese or Chinese, I can say that most Indians here in the US fit the stereotype of the nerdy people. I go to University of Buffalo, and there are more than a thousand Indians here. And I can tell you, more than 90% of them are in these two fields: Engineering or Computer Science (for the more serious kind), and Business Administration (for the less serious kind). In fact, when people ask me whats my major and I say "English and Films", they ask me "You're an Indian, right? So how come?"

I don't have the time to look it up, but I can easily provide statistics for this.

Even in India, Engineering is by far, the biggest field. Jobs are plentiful and the pay is good, no matter what quality of college you graduate from. More than a million people give the exams for admission to Engineering colleges. My city itself has about a dozen engineering colleges. In fact, my city has over 200 high schools, and less than half a dozen of them actually have Arts as a subject. Its almost as if we strive too hard to fit the stereotype.

There are exceptions of course, just as there are exceptions in everything.

And as I said, I can't talk of all Asians, but I can talk of the 1.1 billion Indian people.

Just keep in mind folks that my views here are not racist or anything. Nowhere am I deriding any particular race or country. What I stated are merely historical facts (that the Italian and Irish integrated much more in the American society, for instance). Yes, I am critical of Indians, but as an Indian, I have the right to be critical of my country and my countrymen.

I find Sasha's post to be non-biased at all. I think he's painting an objective picture of the people and cultures of Asia in general and India in particular.

However, the OP is about .asia as a TLD and its valid point that Asia is much more divided in ethnic groups to form a joint identity. I've met people from different Asian nations and they are very strong-minded about their own ethnic group.
