The .eu scam. How US companies stole our very own TLD

It my opinion that any time self-righteous anti-freemarket zealots try to make anything "fair" -- they only create a black market and it becomes 10x more UNfair.
There is no need in .eu extention. It was meant to be a scam from the beginning. Any doubts? Look at the .us extention. The past couple of years just proved there is no need in .us!
Interesting thread.
Was just a few months ago that I recall a vast majority of the euros in the domain industry "whining" that the .us extention was now only available to Americans and vowing to not obey the rule.
Got to love the Hypocracy.
Reading all this stuff lately for the big .eu scam and .eu fiasco I want to add that we just see .eu under domainers perspective. Which is not giving the complete picture. And this why most of domainers are looking for the so-called good names. So GoDaddy is screaming because he didn't cheat and the other guys cheated. Many say that Europeans did't get their names and americans did and so on.
Scam and fiasco seems to be only in terms of good names. Speculation happened for the same.
But the success or not of .eu is not connected to if the good names are grabbed by Godaddy , or Pool or other companies, or even by some of us.
It will be measured in a few years time by the acceptance that will have by people and companies in EU. Time will tell this. But if a good name was grabbed by Pool, Godaddy, DrakeVentures or whoever else, is completely irrelevant.

Just because someone or some people complained about the .us policy, it does not mean that I lose my right to protest against a scam, which since I am a european, concerns me 100%.
And by the way, its Hypocrisy.
mostly EURid, who knew that there was a problem but chose to close their eyes for some reason.

the fact that some europeans complain about the .us registration policy has nothing to do with this fiasco.
The fact is that no european should own a .us domain and no american should own a .eu name.
about the spelling lesson, I usually don't notice such things but since you have accused me and the rest of the "euros" of being hypocrites, it was the least I could do.
no no. not accusing any one person of anything, save for the group of whiners that complained about the .us issue months back who are now probably the loudest ones whining about Americans buying .eu (presumably).
agreed, this whole thing is a mess, but Eurid has rejected nearly 17,000 applications, including sex.eu and presumably other hi end .eu names.... so it will not only be Sunrise 1 & 2, but landrush 1 & 2.
Where did you see that sex.eu has been rejected?
www.WorldNetdaily.com had an article up last night. most likely still there since they only update the news relative to whats happening in the world.
It was 100% fault of Europeans this all happened with their too simple registrar accreditations and last minute trademarks allowed at Benelux for such low cost.

if i'm not mistaken, during the 60 day period you cannot transfer the domain to another registrar but it can be sold and pushed to another registrant within the same registrar.
