If you are new to domains and looking to buy, sell and learn about domains then you have come to the right place. DNForum is the largest domain name community on the internet and continues to grow every day. There are over 105,000 domainers on DNForum doing everything from buying domains, selling domains, learning about domains and discussing domains. Take a minute and Register.
Register Today on DNForum IT'S FREE!Does anybody have any thoughts on the upcoming registration for .in (india) cc? I believe that India has 15 different languages....but the overwhleming majority of educated people speak English.
Would it be a good idea to pre-register english (phonetic) translations of Hindi words..etc? Will there be a landrush to register english words?
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

does anyone one know what time it will be open on 16th feb
Re: English or Hindi or Punjabi(sic), etc. I read an interview between reps from Verisign and Indian gov regarding the topic of registering domain names in English or one of the Indian languages. In sum, the Indian gov reps thought that english words would be more popular, because the ".com" is in English. As a caveat, this interview occurred prior to India having its own cc (circa 2001-02?). Perhaps the same logic applies now (ie "www"..."co.in"). If I can find the interview, I'll post the link.
Hope this helps - SRW

I dont think it'll take off either.
however, I guess getting good keywords for development isnt bad.
BTW, the .in registry is (has been today) a monemuntal failure. it is almost impossible to check whois, let alone hand reg a domain for the past hours, and it shows that directi etc... are hopeless with their buggy interface, amazingly terrible support, and a site that barely functions...

Main reason I am sitting this one out. There isn't a registrar I like that handles .in domains. I walked away from Directi and vowed never to return.Originally Posted by seeker
