All kidding aside, this is a laughable extension in face of very well established and successful .jp, .cn, .tw, .in (if they should be considered part of Asia or middle Asia).

This was the failure of .eu...trying to add another extension to an already well entrenched bunch of domains. It is as ICANN is trying to instill continental pride in folks with a bunch of fluff.

So, gazing into the ICANN crystall ball, lets see what's coming up in their quest for continental dominance:

.AFR - africa

.NA - north america

.SA - south america

.CA - central america (sorry...all canadian .ca are automatically converted to .NA in the official proclaimation by ICANN. If it was already regged by someone in the US of A, you Candiens lose. Okay, eh?)

.ART - artic....finally, Santa, the reindeer, and the elves get their own ccTLD

.ANT - antartica

.FOR - europe...seeing that .eu was such a disaster, ICANN gives approval to .FOR, short for Foreigner. The Rock Band sues but loses.

.VODKA - russia. In a bold move, ICANN seizes the record breaking domain name to use as the new ccTLD for the former Balkan and Eastern block countries and mother RUSSIA after .PUTIN was voted down.

.AHEM - United Kingdom. In a move to associate sounds with common throat clearing noises, ICANN moves to cut back on all the .uk extensions as there was just...ahem, too damn many, mates.

.OFF - The Caribbean nations conglomeration of offshore banking and gambling casinos.

.CHAVES - The President of Venezula passes legislation outlawing term limits on his presidency and anything to do with the English language internet usage.

.ELVIS - North Korea's homage to self proclaimed President for life and lifelong Elvis impersonator, Kim Jong-il. Kim was already reserved for Songstress/Actress/HotBod Lil' Kim.

There are more, but I need to recharge the batteries on ICANN's crystal ball, which surprisingly looks like that 8 Ball toy from the 60's that you ask it a question and the answer mysteriously float to the top when you turn it over.

Most Asian countries use their own CC TLD, I dont see them jumping ship and latching onto this one, However the reseller market is another story, this could be another .mobi land rush that will gradually sink into the abyss.
