ZoneFiles.net (beta) - ccTLD and gTLD droplists
.eu and .asia - waste of time and $$$. Avoid.
Europe is old, Asia is new and developing economy. The potential can be huge, it all depends on how will they be adopted by other countries and companies

.asia is like most new cctlds.... if you know how it works when they first come out... then you make profit.... .eu treated plenty of domainers well... Will it take off? no.... will it make smart investors money... yes.... ebb and tide
Would make more sense to get them as idns vs ascii.

You guys really think so? Don't you think with asia being the fastest growing region in terms of economy and internet penetration that .asia will increase in value? Not just that, but .asia spans a huge continent as compared to .eu?
One of my contacts in the domain industry is working on a strategy to get in on the landrush before general registrations begin. I am interested in exploring more but I just don't know what the value of .asia names would be on the secondary market.
Do you think quality .asia domain names could sell for xx,xxx (10K+)?
Floyd
i won't be touching
i don't touch .eu either
All it could take is one flowers.asia

Launches in early 2008. trademark landrush is in september.

I think this is going to go the way of the .eu...too late, who needs it.
Too many country codes already well established to be competitive.
Naturally prime keywords will be snatched up and later sold.
But how many actual .eu sites are in existence in comparison to the individual ccTLD's like .de, co.uk, .fr, .it, etc.?
I think for the money that there is better investment in .jp, .tw, and .cn and .in.
Great, an extension that doesn't represent a nation or any kind of political body of nations. This is a white man's folly to be avoided. As a Japanese, this is one extension I won't be participating in unless I decide to go after the "misguided wishlists of non-asians in asia" online market. Maybe I will try to reserve the following:
bambooumbrellas.asia
subserviantwives.asia
friedrice.asia
teriyaki.asia
cheaporgans.asia
toxictoys.asia
toxicdogfood.asia
I guess I should be happy that they didn't decide to call it ".oriental"
Agree.

To be honest I think these ridiculous extension launches are such a base for corruption and laundering they should not be allowed. Absolutely no need for it.

Obviously there will be a few of the main keywords that will be given immediate value, on top of this pan-asian businesses and agencies may adopt the .asia, however, apart from these markets (and the second one is all but closed to domainers) I do not foresee either a need or a profit in the suffix.

I probably won't buy any but I think some people will make money on it. Most people in Asia don't even know what 'ASIA' means, they don't use the letters, so it is strange. I can see it being used for travel or information sites on Asian countries marketed to people in english countries, but on a wide scale by Chinese, Japanese, Koreans themselves - no. If things are slow and I have some extra cash when it launches I may get some good keywords for fun, if people outside asia are allowed to reg them.

Heres my take
There will be a pump and dump with this.
A few guys in Hong Kong will make a couple of bucks initially, millions will be spent on the landrush, most dropped 12 months later and in a few years .asia will run into 'financial difficulties' and quietly disappear.
.asia only can be registered by asian people~~~
