I just signed up. As I mentioned in the other post, Motel6 is a couple of blocks away and is $59/night.

ALSO, for anyone interested and can stay the weekend, Mystery (the main guy from VH1's show 'The Pickup Artist') will be holding a weekend conference Friday to Sunday, and we'll be going out ("in field") each night. This is a LOT of fun, not cheap but quite the experience and a great guy to meet.

I don't get paid by Mystery or Motel6, just putting the info out there for fellow Domainfest attendees.

I've signed up.

This will be my second domain conference. I went to DomainFest last year and enjoyed it. The agenda looks good.

Airfare to Latvia is really expensive this time of year.

Are any of you single guys going out to clubs at night during the week? I'm going to find out the fun spots for Monday and Tuesday nights.

The Domainfest site just has the usual touristy stuff -- if you want to get the real bargains on mens clothes, you'll want to go to the LA Fashion District, near 9th and Los Angeles St and a few blocks south. You'll find the same shoes and shirts for $25 - $50 that are $200 - $400 in the malls, or $500 - $900 in Beverly Hills.

I'm not sure if our trip to the Playboy Mansion will be as crazy, but here you can see some photos from my last visit in October 2008. Notice there is a naughty and nice (blurred) version, in case you are at work: http://adventurephotographer.com/albums

I have party'd with Juniper a number of times. He is a party animal.

However, I am not attending Domainfest this year.
I believe it is going to be a waste of time and money.

This years theme is going to be "development".
What does DS know about development?

Attending Domainfest is great for the domainers that live in the L.A. area.
Or, if you do business with DS so your registration fee is refunded.
Then, it "might" be worth attending.

Since, their ppc business has fallen apart, I have moved most of my domains out of DS.
(I probably still qualify for conference fee repayment.)

There is a extensive discussion about DS poor performance someplace else.

They say they expect as many attendees this upcoming Domainfest as in the past.
I seriously doubt it.

I believe DS saw the writing on the wall in regards to their relationship with Google
so they will try to figure out how they can make money off of the development.
The irony is that DomainSponsor's landers haven't changed in years.
Why don't they practice on themselves?

I believe it is time for domainers to get out of the rut of attending "domainer conferences".
They need to attend trade shows/conferences that are put on by people that know the development business.

If you just want to party?
Take the same money you will spend on Domainfest and create your own party.

If you want to really network with professional domainers, attend Traffic.
If you want to learn development, attend Pubcon and other conferences.

Of course you're right - which conference you attend depends on your focus.

If you like flowers.mobi, Traffic is a good conference (flowers.mobi parked with skenzo btw).
For those who focus on ppc, domainfest isn't such a bad choice

It's ALWAYS a blast hitting the clubs with Mystery, and I expect there will be a several well known faces around that weekend, since many of them live in LA.

I focus on PPC too much.
Even though all of my counterparts (major domainers) told me to get away from the ppc guys.

I guess they will take my name down from their testimonial page.

Michael Berkins put up a poll today on his site www.TheDomains.com ,
asking domainers which conferences they will be attending in 2009.

(background)
Many of the major domainers visit his site often since he writes up breaking news and
includes his insights into what it means for the internet.
Michael entered the industry in the 1990's and continues to add domains to his excellent portfolio.
Plus, it adds validity to his opinions since he is also an attorney.

Even though, the sample data is small, it is interesting to note that
most domainers have voted for Traffic as the conference they will be attending in 2009.

Traffic - NY - 19 votes
Traffic - Calif - 17 votes
Traffic - Europe - 16 votes
Domainfest - 9 votes
Roundtable - 4 votes.

I'm sure the numbers can be skewed by a few voters. (I'm also sure the ip # is logged.)

I'm not surprised that high-flying experts who talk about excellent portfolios attend traffic.

I'm a simple guy, I don't know much about excellence, I like cash flow and profit. That's why I like domainfest, I tend to meet similarly simple-minded people there.

I'm suspicious of a poll that doesn't even list the oldest conference one one that many domainers attend (and even speak at), which is Pubcon. Pubcon draws thousands, Traffic draws a few hundred. I'm guessing he's a friend of Rick's and trying to promote Traffic without mentioning the much bigger competition, Pubcon.

That's like showing a poll of US political party membership and "Democrat" not being on the list.

Since, you buy traffic domains, I would assume ppc is important to you.
Considering your passion for Domainfest, I would also assume DomainSponsor
is your main ppc source.

I hope Domainfest's 2009 domain development theme will be beneficial for you.

Juniper is correct. There are a number of conferences/tradeshows that should have been included especially Pub.

I speculate when Michael made the list, he started with the shows he was planning to attend.

Also missing from the list is Parked's Mardi gras.
