Arrow Dot Travel Hype and Nonsense

    Just finished reading this nonsense:

    http://www.traveldailynews.com/pages/show_page/29068

It coincidentally appears alot of hype for the dot travel extension is being created before the Domainfest auction next week.

Moniker has placed the following on there site in relation to the dot travel names in there auction:

Breaking news: Premier .TRAVEL domains to be included

This just in: For the first time ever, a handful of premier .TRAVEL domains will be included in the live auction. The exclusive offering will include hand-picked domains that are highly keyword centric, such as:

    City.travel
    Europe.travel
    Fly.travel
    Free.travel
    Information.travel

    see: http://marketplacepro.moniker.com/au...auction_id=197

Whats the big deal? This is a dead extension without one real recorded sale for decent money. We now have fake press releases all over the internet about the answers.travel sale for 3.3 million. Take notice this news is limited to paid for press releases only.

    http://www.businesswire.com/portal/s...27&newsLang=en

When you have made up press releases such as these and the made up hype about the dot travel extension and moniker referring to premier dot travel domains (an oxymoron) it only takes away and brings into question the really good sales we continue to see in other non dot com extensions.

To suggest in any article that .travel is a better extension and long term investment than .info, .net, or .org is absolutely absurd and cannot be backed up by one solid verified sale in any respectable publication.

Two things I am certain of, much better opportunities will cetainly exist in the upcoming Domainfest auction than "anything".travel and the answers.travel sale is nothing more than paid for hype for a dead extension.

For an extension to be sucessful interest and demand for the extension must exist not paid for hype and false sales.

Those domains aren't that bad - especially Europe.travel. While we won't see .travel domains killing on the DNJournal reports, some are great for travel agencies etc.

What did you expect them to say ? You expect them to say- "These .travel names are garbage and anyone who pays a lot for them are total fools" ???

Really dude. Hyping has A LOT to do with business. And of course they want to hype the .travel extention. NEWSFLASH ! - They are in the DOMAIN business!

I mean, you posted a travel news link. Of course they will take anything positive and make it news. Wake up man.

    Ed,

I guess to me its not so much that the names are so bad or have no value at all its all the recent hype and nonsense surrounding the extension from the report of the 3.3 million dollar answers.travel sale to the hype of this extension being the only real alternative to the dot com, etc. etc.

Namebio.com doesn't list one .travel sale ever nor could I find one on dnjournal.com all of a sudden a couple of decent generic word domains in the dot travel extension end up at domainfest and we hear of this 3.3 million dollar sale of answers.travel and find articles like the rubbish I linked to above.

I expect them to simply give domainers more credit sometimes its best to say nothing at all. They can hype it all they want the names won't even go for $1000 a piece in my honest opinion this is a never was extension with no prior sales and no demand or interest.

The point of the thread wasn't so much moniker hyping names they have for sale rather the nonsense I have been reading prior to domanfest about this dead extension that never had a sale make dnjournal or namebio then all of a sudden someone paid for fake pr about answers.travel selling for 3.3 million.

.travel is a good example of timing. They missed the boat, I think .travel would of had a chance when all the travel service moved online, priceline, expedia, etc. At that time the media, the energy, the money was in the travel indsutry. Now? Well, since travel is a luxury for many it's not a good market IMHO. I am sure they seem the success of the hype from .mobi and .me so they're trying to recoup some funds.

I'll agree - answers.travel is not the best name and I'm sure that either the sale didn't happen or there was A LOT more involved with the sale - a company, a site, something. Domain alone that is either one hell of a salesman or a really bad buyer. (Just look at when the Weather Channel was sold - it included weather.com and people took it as the domain sale when it wasn't).

Either or, the hype, like any hype, is to bring attention to something and, in the end, bring in money. Like Acquisition said, they're not going to say "check out all of our horrible names!" they're going to hype them up and make mud look like gold.

I'll also agree with Acronym. It's biggest enemy is timing (exactly like .mobi). A few years ago .travel would have been extremely successful. Registration started in October 2005 and "normal" registration started in 2006 - if ICANN had initiated it back in, say, 1999 or even 2000 it would have been far more successful.
