I just did the dumbest thing...
I just made $500 offer on a sedo name only to realize, a moment later, it is a misspelling. Is there any legal way for me to cancel the offer?
All advice and comment appreciated.
tom
I'm not sure their policy but I would contact them immediately!
There is a bid retraction form you can fill out but needs to meet certain criteria, it's worth checking out.
Basically, it's your responsibility to control check what domain you're actually bidding on before you place the bid. Unless the seller is cool with it, I believe you must proceed with the transaction.
Yes, their TOS allows this. But do not delay in contacting them.
If the seller does not accept the offer, then that is that.
Are you sure? Then it's an easy excuse for bidders to back out of deals IMO. Then they can just say that they "thought they were bidding on a different domain". I have to review that sedo terms of service again.
As i know all bids are final
IT is extremely difficult and not easy.
The biggest issue is having someone at sedo even respond.
This has only been an issue for me once, a mistaken proxy bid entered with one too many zeros added
Question
Can I retract or cancel my bid?
Answer
As a general rule, retracting bids is not allowed. When you are the winning bidder, you are obligated to pay the high-bid price for the domain name.
There are only two exceptions under which you can retract a bid:
1. You have made a typographical error and entered the wrong bid amount by mistake. If this occurs, you are able to retract the incorrect bid amount but are obligated to submit another sufficiently high bid amount at the same time. Not placing another bid means you will lose your status as a Certified Buyer resulting in the inability to participate in future bidding activity.
2. The description of the domain offer has been changed considerably by the seller.
Your options to retract a bid also vary depending on when you placed your bid:
If you placed your bid before the last 12 hours of the auction:
• You can only retract your bid if the situation meets the above circumstances
• All bids you have placed before on that domain name will be eliminated as well
• If you are correcting a bidding error, you will have to bid again immediately
If you placed your bid during the last 12 hours of the auction:
• You can only retract your bid if the situation meets the above circumstances
• You may retract the bid only within one hour after placing the bid
• You will eliminate only the most recent bid you placed
Please use our bid retraction form to retract your bid. Bids you placed prior to the last 12 hours will not be retracted.
not big on retracting a bid in general...but
If you are going to try , dont waste time here, go there and state your case.

Just call, you will be fine. Not like it is 50K or something.
Well if the buyer accepts your bid then it gets hard, but a lot of people seem to just not bother paying anyway even after the price has been negotiated, so I wouldnt worry too much about it.
Hi Dumbass here,
Thanks to everyone who commented on my situation.
As it turns out, your advice was excellent.
I wrote sedo ASAP, within 10 minutes of the mistake, and pled for mercy. Today I get a note saying everything is ok: they have canceled my offer and informed the seller.
They did add, darkly: "In this instance, we have just cancelled the bid but if it happens again then you run the risk of your Member Certification being locked."
Thanks again to members who gave their advice.

ps: Am I the only domainer quilty of the occasional DUI? (Domaining Under the Influence)
Hell no. Just the only one stupid enough to admit it
Naw, there was an old thread about drunk regs and it was funny.
My best purchase was once at a convention and bid on one when I was plastered. I could not believe I had spent that much on a domain.
But it turned out to be my biggest sale.
