(Sedo) Bought name, but seller did not own it

I bought a domain on sedo; but the seller did not own it. sedo discovered this,
    and refunded my money; good.

I am curious how this can happen. And I assume it could happen with any of the online
    brokers like Sedo.

Cant we eliminate some of this from occurring? I am wondering if these steps would help,
and I hope the Sedo rep (and other rep's) see this and comment:

    1) Require the account listing at Sedo to have the same email as is on the Admin in the domain record
    2) Send an email when someone creates an account or changes their address; an email with a link
that has to be clicked on, to finish the change.
    3) Send an email when a domain is listed for sale, to the Admin email address.
    4) if someone does this kind of bogus listing, not only ban their name and email from sedo,
but from all of the main brokers - they should share this data.
    5) have a central database to list these scouflaws that anyone can check; will help protect
    people doing sales via forums.

    Hi

it also could have been totally innocent or accidental

once, i got an offer on a domain.

i had two domains which were almost identical.

one i had sold previously outside of sedo, the other i still had

the offer came for the domain that i had sold, because it was "still" listed in my portfolio

when i accepted the offer, i did so without looking at the domain closely

when i went to the registrar to make sure it was still there, that's when i realized the error

i contacted sedo and explained what happened

had i checked the registrar first, i wouldn't have accepted the offer.

    purging one's list is essential

but i'm glad you got your cash back

True, that can happen. I suspect most people are lax on purging their listings.

But when an offer came in, before forwarding the offer, at that point sedo could check if the *current* domain record Admin email address
matched the sellers account email address; and if not, then sedo could at least ask the seller for some kind of explanation.

    That would solve your example?
