F.A.Q. Q: What is .tl?
A. .tl is the ccTLD for Timon Leste, a democratic island nation near Indonesia.
Q. Don't I need special requirements to own a .tl?
A. No. .tl domains can be owned and used by anyone in any country. See
http://www.nic.tl/policies.jsp for more info
Q. Isn't $599 a lot of money for a domain like this?
A. That's a good question. If you plan to park the domain hoping for type-in traffic, then yes. Don't waste your money. If you plan to brand and develop this unique domain, then this is absolutely a great price. While .tl may not be hottest TLD out there, there are simply not many x.xx domains out there. Add to this the powerful opportunity to SELECT your favorite letter above, and I believe this price is QUITE reasonable.
Q. Why do you have 19 of these domains?
A. I sought out this registry before they went public, and simply asked to be notified. When the registry went live, there was no "pre-order" process, so I got my "pick of the litter". Unfortunately, I was only able to get 20 of the 26 single-letters, and I am keeping one (i.tl) for myself.
Q. What kind of domain management does nic.tl offer?
A. Easy real-time DNS
server setting and contact management.
Q. What is the renewal cost?
A. Approximately $USD50 per year.
Q. Why would I want one of these domains? I'm not doing business in Timor Leste, and no one uses .tl!
A. Here are just a few uses:
h.tl could be a hotel search engine. Enlarge the "dot" a bit to look like an "o" and voila!
l.tl could be a home page or email address for someone named Little (i.e.,
stuart@l.tl)
n.tl is the abbreviation for "national" and would be a great email address.
p.tl stands for "Praise The Lord" and used to be a popular evangelical TV show
q.tl stands for "quantitative trait loci" which is a term used in DNA mapping
s.tl could be for a St. Louis Cardinals fan (
cards@s.tl)
r.tl could be a "tinyurl" clone site called "really tiny link" (envision
http://r.tl/?123) (also would work with any of the others -- "[substitute-superlative-adverb-here] tiny link")
t.tl would make a great DNS management domain (i.e., "Time-to-live")
Here is an example of what I plan to do with
my 1-letter .tl. I saved i.tl for myself (not listed above), because I am going to use it as a short path to my itravelogs.com site, once it is developed. When people link to their travelog, they can use
http://i.tl/username. This link will certainly provide valuable branding to itravelogs.com, as well as provide subscribers with an ultra-short and easy-to-remember link for all their journeys.
Anyway, just some of the 1000s of possibilities for these domains. What possibilites can YOU come up with with "the world's SHORTEST domain"?
