.us picking up?

Noticed sedo has a couple of fair .us sales listed...

fighters - $2200
cleanenergy - $905

Interesting.

It's a good ccTLD - short and to the point. People are getting tired of overpriced .com (*and other main TLDs) and are going with ccTLDs now.

But the problem is after 7 years many folks still don't recognize .us ext. When I give them a .us URL they sometimes think I must mean ExampleUS.com

With 99.999% of the non-.com domains out there its more about SEO than promoting by URL.

I've had some success selling .us to end-users. Good opportunities in .US.

99.999% seems too high (for example .org can get good direct navigation) but regardless of that aspect you are overlooking the great value of typeins which are significantly lower due to the .us lack of public recognition.

I already have this vision when I hand-regged hundreds of LLL.us few years ago.

That's an amazing sale. I've bought one .US domain as an end-user, smilies.us, which I used for adwords campaigns for free smilies. Price was about $250 I think.

It will never take on .com or even .net, but if a few companies start to use it then it will lead to recognition and prices will take off - like happened to .tv which is recognised by almost everyone in the UK now.

I sold a couple of us names to end users in the past several months.
A lousy 3 letter for $2K - I paid $59 for this one.
A 2 words to a photographer $1,600 and several 2 words names in the upper $xxx.

I have been following a list of good names that I bulk check periodically. Very few .US domains seem to be leaving the original owners hands via expiration if they are very good to excellent terms. Decent and just good names are a bit of a different story though. On the other hand, tons of .BIZ including even excellent terms seem to be expiring. Many look to be being renewed by their registrars at the last possible moment and not their original owners. Many are simply deleting with no pickup. If you have even a fairly common last name and want to own it in something that isn't truly awful, you should check .BIZ. Many significant surnames are currently available.

Patience is required for .US though. Don't invest in .US names expecting to turn them for a quick profit now unless you want a very small (if any) profit. My very best original land rush names do, in most cases, more than pay for themselves in PPC. A few make $50-100/year. Most make more like 10 to 50 cents yearly though so to being in for the long haul isn't cheap relative to renewal fees.

What happened to "studentloan.us"? I just checked Sedo and it's for sale with no bids.

It will pick up there is no doubt about it. The question will be if its sustainable for the long term.
