    Question Enduser awareness

I was thinking today about how many of the endusers I talk to don't know squat about keywords, generic domains or online positioning. Then I really started to think that the internet and domain market is really still in its infancy. It hasn't been that long since the "domain gold rush". I think that over the next 5-10 years and more, many more businesses will be educated around the importance of ranking well online, better positioning and the importance of owning a good domain. Thoughts???

Hi Namefox, I've always been a big fan of rich keyword domains. I know from experience that they can bring tons of traffic with pretty much zero marketing because that's the way search engines work, yes they look at backlinks, titles, and all but keywords in the domains are most definitely the best way to get a good ranking. What if one day, Google and others decide to change the way they do it, that day many people will loose a lot of money. Search engines didn't start the way they are today and won't be the same way in the future. I hope for our sake we can cash out before something happens. Rich keywords domains will always be easy domains to remember and type especially if the keywords are common but they might loose their advantage on the search engines one day. I hope not.

Am I completely out of my mind or is this a inevitable possibility?

    Your thoughts...

Yes, you are completely out of your mind LOL. I think the domain industry and internet is still in its infancy. Many endusers are just starting to wake up to the fact about the internet. I still speak with business owners daily that don't have a website and certainly don't have a clue about domains.

This scares me every day, but as long as you provide good content and continuously work on your rankings, you should be okay for years and years to come.

Nah, simply because every search engines goal is to deliver the most relevant results for any given search. That'll never change. So if you have keywordspecificdomains.com and the domain matches the content, you're good to go.

That is EXACTLY how I see things happening. I am betting heavily on keyword rich domains and the thought that Search Engines evolve rapidly scares the hell out of me. I hope the domain market outpaces Search Engine technology so that this is not a losing venture.

they will simply continue on doing what they have been doing - trying to present the best results to their users. If those results contain the same keyword domains as the search then they'll serve it up. If people insist on putting non-related content on their domains then they may back off on this approach.

It does appear google is moving towards more of a local search with their results. Good keyword domains focusing on local things should do really well soon.

"Keyword rich" domains are really not important to the success search engine optimization. As Google always says - content is king. Any legitimate business with legitimate content can rank well without a keyword rich domain.

I think as search engines evolve, keyword-rich domains will become less and less important.

I think that rich keyword domains that have content matching the nature of the domain will always do well in search engines. They will always have weight. What might be q'able is how much weight. I would much rather have one then not as far as the seo value goes and even more when communicating/advertising the site/domain. Rule of thumb for me is that if keyword domains have more meaning to consumers, then that is what will drive google/yahoo. Type-in traffic at some level proves they have meaning to consumers.

I also believe that end-users will get it more and more as time goes by. Just today I had an offer from someone who stated he had consulted his web/seo "guy". Those "guys" are the key imo since expectation is placed on them to produce results and this is an edge they know about or are learning about and want.

Yes, this is the way I think too. A great keyword domain developed into a content rich site is apt to do better (not always) than another site with a crappy domain.

Not important to the success search engine optimization?? It's what matter most, sure content is nice but won't get you anywhere. Here is an example. I own realestatecompany.ca, the content is not good, the site is using a well known directory script and I haven't updated in like 6 months.

If you go to Google and check for Real Estate Company here is what you get: http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&source=h...11983a5b1aa07d

3rd spot on first page before Remax, Century21, Prudential and tons of huge "Real Estate Companies" with a lot of updated daily quality content.

Now just for fun lets check realestatecompanies.ca which I own and have used only as a redirect to the singular. Never did anything to it.
    http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&source=h...11983a5b1aa07d

#1 spot on google.ca before any other real estate company or companies.

Now don't you think it would be Remax best interest to buy this domain for half a million and use it for marketing? Every time any Real Estate Company advertise something anywhere I get more traffic for those looking for maybe competitor deals or looking for that deal or that specific real estate company.

So really Mr. Space, don't believe what Google tells you, above is a clear example that shows that keyword rich domain is the only way to go at least for now.

What will kill the keyword rich domains is the fact that most of them are set on poorly designed mini sites or parked page. Eventually, Google and friends will get tired of that and search in a different way.

I don't think keyword rich domains will loose much value even if search engines change their ways but they won't go up in value. I love my keyword domains, I recently put one up for a great niche and I'm already on the front page in like 1 week... but I'm preparing for the day that they all get off the front page. Really, RealEstateCompany.ca shouldn't be on the front page or at least not before Remax and those guys.

I remember in the late 90s early 2000s, as a designer we use to set porn keywords in the meta keywords of all our pages to get good ranking as porn was the only good stuff online and it did work for a while until google realized that meta keywords doesn't work. See how important are meta keywords nowadays, not a whole lot that's for sure. Same thing might happen to the keyword rich domains. The only reason to change a system that works is when it gets abused.

    I'm probably completely gone bizerk.

    We just did abortion(no space)myths(.)ca
    http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&source=h...8a02060688882f
Number 2 in as many weeks. The content is excellent and referenced though which is a major factor.

Each page on this site targets a keyword string but only one of those other strings are getting a reading at this time. Granted the number of sites found vary for each set but the keywords doing the best are the ones in the domain.

It is pretty easy to do in niche markets online with a good keyword domain but is harder in sectors that are more competitive for sure.

Thats true. Here is a tougher example for relocating(.)ca which is a category:
    http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&source=h...8a02060688882f

First page - 4th - but what has helped here in addition to the keyword/seo is time. Its been online for 8 years.
