Which registrars have domain locking?

If this is a true EPP system, then it will be up to the registrars to notify and contact registrants. It should have no change on the 30 day grace window, but likely would mean the end of registrar transfers for a suspended domain. Again, who knows?

One thing for you to consider would be 'registrant transferable' when a registration is suspended. EPP systems usually only permit changes to active domains, and even though the concept of a registrant transfer might be obsolete, simply changing the registrant with an EPP key would still likely require the domain to delivered to the new registrant as active.

As far as locking goes, every registrar has it. Whether they do it right is another thing.

Locking has always been in the system. Some registrars had it on and some had it off while some allowed you to decide. This 'locking' was the change without confirming at CIRA option. Any registrar could have placed a secondary 'log in here to confirm you really want to do this' for transfers out and the like, provided they designed it well. There are some very smart registrars out there like BareMetal.com who are going to do an excellent job with the new EPP system.

So, the new system for registrar transfers will be:

1. Unlock domain at present registrar.
2. Request Domain Name Key and wait for key to be emailed
3. Order and pay for domain at new registrar
4. Login to present registrar and Accept transfer ( or wait a period of time, such as 5 days for automatic transfer)
5. login to new registrar to accept transfer.

Is this correct?

Cira doesn't currently allow the previous registrar to accept/decline a transfer so the flow would be something along the lines of:

1. Obtain Authorization code from previous registrar
2. Unlock domain at previous registrar
3. Purchase transfer at new registrar (inputing the authorizatoin code)

The rest is handled in real time, should you not have an account at the new registrar CIRA will copy your existing information into a new contact assigned to that registrar alternatively that registrar can assign new contacts for registrant, admin, techs at transfer time.

This will also allow for a registrant transfers at the same time as registrar transfers.

Isn't it wonder how CIRA is openly and clearly communicating these changes to us, and with such a long amount of time beforehand, too!

I wonder how many more surprises will be revealed.

Did most people here know that 2nd-level's would not be allowed (even for the same registrant) if a third-level exists?

If so, why would you ever demand this?

(I know it was demanded, because "CIRA is a member-driven organization that develops and implements policies that support Canada's Internet community and represents the .CA registry internationally." - so, it was the members that demanded this, right?)
