Register Today on DNForum IT'S FREE!Hello, I manage the Canadian domain names for my company at work. I think I can score some points by reducing our renewal costs. This will be easy to do as our current registrar is Webnames. Webnames fees are ridiculous.
Can someone recommend an excellent Canadian registrar that I can move our names to? A company that preferably has a service that caters to corporate customers?
Thanks...

Namespro.ca hands down. Prices are a bit higher than 10dollar.ca or Domainsatcost.ca but their service is top notch.

How many domains does your company own? You should know that saving a few hundred dollars A YEAR is not going to score you any point. But if anything happens, the one who makes the change (i.e. YOU) will be blamed.
If you ask me, I would NOT touch on this one. You may want to check out Webnames promotions more closely; they do that quite often, and sometimes it could be up to 25% off or more.
A reluctant alternative would be Tucows (OpenSRS), which is a publicly traded company. So at least you would have something to fall back to in case the worst happened. But I'm not sure if they still operate a retail wing, and you'll have to locate one of their resellers. (I AM a Tucows reseller, but I don't do retail.)

I tried GoDaddy once when they became a .ca registrar and they messed up my one domain I had with them...so I switched to Namespro.ca. Actually moved all of my domains over.

We only have about 50 domains at the moment.
I'm pretty sure Webnames let 2 domains go into a to-be-dropped status by accident.
I have a screenshot from a year ago showing the domains set to Auto Renew. We did drop 3 similar names with slightly different spelling. I received an email and mailing form Webnames stating those 3 names were going to drop. Nothing came in via email or snailmail about the names we wanted to keep though.
When I called them, the tech insisted they would have sent me warnings. He confirmed my contact details were correct. I can't prove they didn't send anything and even if I could, he insisted there was nothing they could do to stop the drop this week.
The whole thing has soured me on Webnames though. Almost all of my personal domains are with GoDaddy, EasyDNS and Internic.ca. For my company, I'm looking for a reputable Canadian company that will look out for us.
Regarding Namespro, anyone know what their support is like? Easy to reach someone via phone? Fast response to emails? Seperate support address for Corporate accounts maybe?
Thanks...

You will not find better support for .ca domains than that offered by namespro.ca. I've never needed to call them - they answer email requests at all hours of the day - they are listed in Richmond BC and I've mailed them at 3am PST and gotten a response in minutes.
If you have a large amount of .ca's they will even give you a better rate than that listed on their website - all you have to do is ask.
Seriously, send them an email detailing all that you need and they will be sure to take care of you.![]()

Numbers 1 & 2 are Namespro.ca and baremetal.com for the best customer service (as well as pricing, except for 10dollar)
10dollar has the best pricing, and by far, the best domain control panel.
Sibername can also have good pricing and support, although some DNF'ers (is DN F'ers rude?) have beefs.
I don't think there is such a thing as "corporate accounts" in the domain world, i.e. pricing is based on volume - most volume domainers are individuals, whether they do it on a corporation basis or personal basis.

fwdtech, given that 10dollar is the best for pricing and their control panel, how come they aren't one of your top 2? Support issues?
I've been with 10dollar for years and I haven't any problems, but I've rarely had to contact support so maybe I haven't experienced the downside yet.
Namespro.ca hands down.

Again, Namespro.ca totally blows me away with service. Even late in the evening, their support is better than any business I have dealt with.

Well, 50 domains are good enough to save $1,000, a corporate threshold of petty cash. And yes, that would score you some points, ESPECIALLY when you could blame Webnames for not auto-renewing not 1 but 2 of your company's domains.
Again, look for companies that are big enough and with longer history. You need to cover your back in corporate life. Good luck.

A question for everyone recommending NamesPro
The one thing that's prevented me from moving all my .cas to them is that it doesn't look like they have any bulk update tools. However, I only have 1 domain with them right now (recently registered to play around with their system), so I'm wondering if maybe they DO have bulk tools, but they just don't show up in your account unless you have multiple domains with them.
So my question is, do they actually have bulk tools? Or, given that their support is what everyone seems to be recommending, if I needed to make some sort of a bulk update to my account (let's say, updating all the DNS servers for my domains), can I contact support to do this for me, or would I need to go through my account and update these one by one?
You would need to check with support if they would update DNS for you, as they do not have a bulk tool - which is a huge plus for 10dollar's control panel.
No issues with them. Most domainers here need transfer services, as well as different extensions created.given that 10dollar is the best for pricing and their control panel, how come they aren't one of your top 2? Support issues?

Namespro excels at these with service and price.
