WB, you're right, it's not only sad but it's a problem for .ca quality as a whole. I'm one of those people who tend to "park", so guilty as charged. It's not that I don't want to develop - I have have done a small handful of very innovative projects. It's simply that I don't have the time to spend on it, and parking is the shortest path to making the names pay their rent. I'm guessing lack of time and the convenience of parking is why so many do exactly that.

I am making plans to do more development with my names however. Have some interesting ideas about how to scale this more effectively accross multiple names - where each build isn't a custom-made project - but not too cookie cutter either. Basically, trying do builds in a way that's a lot more convenient.

I'd like to try this with a handful of perhaps 30-40 names, and if it works, perhaps look at it for the majority of my portolio. If anyone else is interested in experimenting more with non-parking options (or you are one of the few people who tends to build rather than park already), maybe you have an interest in pooling (excuse the term) a few names together for such an experiment. Or, at minimum, share information about what works and what doesn't? Even basics like who is the best multi-domain hosting company (e.g. reliable but not too expensive) would be very useful to know.

Anyone interested in a conversation along those lines?

Thanks for the update on neuropathy, that should make the weekly sales report.

Also, in the updates section at DNJournal there is a note about how TrafficZ is working on domain parking pages that actually look like 'developped' websites. I was thinking this would come eventually but not so soon.

Namedrive has templates that look like sites. the default one is plain but they have a good 7 that i use frequently.

Sounds good but are they just going to scrape content for content's sake? The search engines are really smartening up to any duplicate content so it is not much of an advantage - and in some circumstances will actually get your right out of the search engine.

Now if they have templates that you can plug in your own text - then they are on to something.

Well we used to do it for our canadian drop clients but I discontinued it. Too much conflict when we wanted the names for ourselves

I don't know anyone that does it now but you only have to find a willing partner (canadian) (another board member perhaps?) and actually REGISTER the partnership. Make sure you use the canadian address of the partner as CIRA actively scans it's DB for non canadian info. And checks it out.

We had a very large drop in Jan as a result of an american portfolio holder of several thousand names exited the market. I'm not sure if it was forced by CIRA or voluntary. I suspect it was forced as all the names dropped at once.

Pretty costly experience if it was forced.

Thanks for the info, I'm waiting to hear back from Adam, hopefully he can help me out...If I use a Canadian address of a partner for a .ca, would I be giving up any rights or control of my domain to that partner? I'm not sure I understand how that works.

homehealthcare/ca was one of the better ones, will be a very important issue in Canada over the coming years.
