Frankly I don't understand his business model. The list of domains I see in the suspended catagory is astonishing at times. Domains that would easily make their reg fee (some almost daily) and a profit besides. How can you justify taking them out for 30 days every year???

It boggles my mind.

I saw in an article a couple years back that you said you owned a few more good ones, like sm.ca maybe?

Ok, I have to ask, how come you've never taken a bigger plunge into your own country's domain extension? Too small a market, not easy to monetize?

Probably overall, with the thousands of domains, he might be losing on a few but the rest wouldn't make any or much PPC anyway. Might be too hard to pull out just the good ones. How do you even keep track with that many domains?

It's a combination of laziness and stupidity to be honest.

I had a chance the first night they got de-regulated and I only regged about 100, mostly dumb ones as my knowledge was different then than today.

Re: Showcase your .ca's

I remember putting in a lot of requests prior to the .ca opening back in Oct/Nov 2000, most I didn't get but I think I got a few good ones. Remember waiting for the email confirmations, checking which ones I got and didn't get.

Then during the 'internet bust' I never did anything from 2001 to 2004 with .ca, but kept an interest in .com, buying ones I liked now and then.

I really only started again last year and probably reg too many now, trying to make up for lost time. But's it's hard to resist those strong generic keyword combinations that are available, and you see .com .net .org etc all taken. And you know you could easily develop a webpage around the keywords. And technology is changing so fast that who knows, maybe you can build a full website around it one day. And if you don't reg it, you know someone else will. and on and on and on...

Re: Showcase your .ca's

singlechristian.ca - 117459
autorepairservice.ca - 196759
repairservice.ca - 100237

Some of the high OVT domains I grabbed in the past couple of days. Many others I had listed to buy later are now gone - again in the past 30 days or so, to the same half dozen characters for the most part.

I'm pretty convinced after looking high and low, that all single word domains with high OVT are long gone. Even the mid to sub par single word domains in .ca are gone or are slowly disappearing as well.

I just did a scan and there are only 63 NNN's left.

Looks like good times ahead for .ca!

Came across one of yours the other day - bodywash. I hand-regged bodyspray, not spectacular but a decent generic I think..

Nice ones. Yeah, it's getting harder and harder. I'm happy if overture is even half what you got there...

I've resorted to hand regging a few adult ones strictly for the potential traffic/revenue as the credit cards are starting to take a big hit lately... lol..

Indeed I did - thanks.

BTW - if anyone wants a list of the remaining NNN .ca's drop me a PM.

Re: Showcase your .ca's

I have to admit some days I ask myself why I bought so many dot ca’s but after reading this thread I am sure glad that I did.

Thanks for keeping the thread going.

Re: Showcase your .ca's

I'm a bit torn here... these high OVT domains are so very generic. Obviously with development they can be a gold mine but to a reseller they appear and sound so blah.

I've got a bunch more on the burner but being a poor-*** university student is it worth parting with the money for another dozen of them?

Re: Showcase your .ca's

Most people and businesses don't even realize they need a website/domain yet.

When you look all around and see .ca domains everywhere, I mean on tv, radio, newspapers, magazines, food products, heck even my kids Halloween candy wrappers had the candy company domains on them in .ca. Campbell's soup is using 'MySoup.ca' and 'MaSoupe.ca' on their labels I noticed today.

I always like to think "in the future, domains will become more important, not less".

Still, you have to eat and most of us have our financial limits, so if you already have some choice .ca names, having a few more won't make a huge difference. Sometimes though I come across ones I just have to have no matter what, so then I just reg.

Anyone regging good keywords in .ca will be quite happy over the next few years, IMO

Good points but as Razor hinted - renewal time always comes around...

I've noticed that many Canadian advertisers are using new domains for product launches and stuff. Like that stupid wolfboy.ca, and honda had one running for a while and then there is that awful no2meth.ca - these people need some domain buying help! They would fit right in with the newbies on the appraisal forum. LOL

I did break down and grabbed another five... one with an OVT of 549583

Ah credit cards...

Re: Showcase your .ca's

Two new freshly registered .ca's

I was inspired by a recent appraisal thread...

OVT is ok, about 38000

NurseryRhymes.ca

and I also got

NurseryRhyme.ca
