I own jellies.ca, I might go after that!

Has anyone noticed that if you own both the singular and plural of a name, people offer less. ie. if I own berry.ca and berries.ca, someone would offer $500 for one, and $750 for both.

I would think that $500 for one and $2000 for both would make the most sense. Isn't there more value in monopolizing a name??? -

Never sell domains in pairs. Unless it's an offer you can't refuse.

I think owning bookends is a good thing for re-sale. A package like that is much more attractive to a buyer in most cases.
I own ScaryMovie.ca and ScaryMovies.ca.
Why would I want to sell just one...and why would a buyer not try and buy both from me knowing I could sell the other to someone else.

Are you talking about a reseller jaydub?

I don't know any end users who try to buy both. They are looking for a specific name when they contact you and unless you are selling the second name for a major discount there is no point in selling in pairs. I find anytime you mention to an end user about having for an example a plural version as well they seem to think that now if they buy the pair it should be much cheaper. Hence why i said not to sell in pairs. Since i don't see it as being profitable.

Also, i always see in reseller cases that when selling more than one name together...or names in bulk people want everything cheaper.

I am talking end user or whoever...
Not my experience...they seem happy to buy and I don't necessarily think they should pay double...pricing depends on the name/s. Some plurals may be more valuable than singulars...
I look at having both as an enhancement and most times I offer them as a pair.

And what people want to pay only counts if it is what you will sell it for...and vice versa...nothing is etched in stone.

Jaydub from personal experience...buying in pairs or bulk...is usually good for the buyer. It doesn't result in more $$$ because you sold in pairs or in bulk. That's just what i have noticed. The only good thing for the seller is it will free up some money, but that's not necessarily a good thing.

Funny you should mention that, I own bookends.ca -lol. And to really push the point, I bought bookend.ca (my wife has it actually).

I guess if I am selling lavalamps, it makes a lot of sense to own lavalamp and lavalamps. I can't imagine not wanting both. If I don't own both I am basically inviting competition. It doesn't make sense if you are selling something.

I guess it's different if you are not selling something, but even then, people sometimes forget if it's singular or plural.

Last .ca's I sold to an end-user were the singular and plural. The buyer approached me looking for the singular and it wasn't hard to convince them of the necessity of having both.

I think the same can be said for - center + centre - and words with "or" or "our" like labor and labour. Best to have them both because people will go to the wrong place otherwise, but it's so easy to just forward one to the other and not miss any traffic while eliminating anyone from setting up direct competition on the other spelling/plural etc.

Traffic/visitors are your most valuable commodity when running an Internet business so why let any possible visitor be bleed off elsewhere?

If both are available, it is prudent to buy both. I am constantly seeing the plural of physical product domain available...so I grab them. I sometimes contact the owners of the singular and they say, "Sorry but I'm not interested in that domain at this time." which makes absolutely no sense to me. Just recently, I contacted someone who owns the singular and I own the plural as a developed site; they weren't interested and didn't even ask what may price was. The plural gets more searches as it is physical product. Go figure...

Jaydub...nice grab on the scarymovie(s)

I sell the primary domain, and then offer them the other one after the sale. I never give a discount. Just say No. Singular or Plural...to me they are both equal assets to be sold as such...unless you are feeling generous.

The end users are clueless about type-in and traffic bleed. I think you need to educate them when pitching the domains. Search volume is also relevant data.

My take on things....

Your eventual sale turns out how you guide it. Sometime owning both plural/singular is an automatic addition to value, sometimes not as a " bulk " deal is requested for taking both.

Personally the buyer would like to have both, it is to their advantage to have both, it is a disadvantage to sale both at a discount to someone who has the motivation to own both.

Always variables and sometimes buyers do not care but I would always do my best to show the positives of owning both and thus that is why you are paying more, bottom line is no negative besides the initial cost.

As mentioned a one at a time approach may work best and the art of the deal is crucial no matter how many names or packages are created. It goes beyond what the buyer values ( literally ) and how good you are at getting what you want.

I owned francophone dot ca and had to pay a lot to own francophones dot ca. From a development point of you, having both increase it's value by a whole lot by preventing mistype confusion and competition from taking business away. All I do is trying to get the singular/plurial of domains I own. For example if I sold one for 1k, I would sell both for 10k but I would never sell, would be silly, I'll develop it.

I missed everything, how long do they run before relying on a higher bid ? Is it 2 days and is it the exact same start time each time ?
