The new weekly domain sales report is out at DNJournal.com. A flood of sales from last month's Moniker/T.R.A.F.F.I.C. East auction were completed this week, making those names eligible for our charts. To make way for the influx of high dollar domains we expanded our all extension chart from 20 positions to 50 (additional slots were also added to the Global Contenders and Country Code charts).
Five six-figure sales sit at the top of the chart, led by the now famous Cowboys.com at $370,000. You've no doubt heard the story behind that sale by now, but if you haven't we'll recount it and point you to a couple of exclusive videos from a party where the group that bought that domain celebrated their acquisition. While .com took its usual lion's share of the Big Board, .mobi also had a big week claiming 7 positions on the elite all extension list. One of those sales cracked the six-figure mark and was the second highest .mobi sale of the year. Three country code domains also made the chart while .net, .org and .info each claimed one slot.
Among the Global Contenders (.net, .org, .info, .biz, .mobi and .pro), .mobi dominated sweeping the first 8 chart positions. A .eu (European Union) domain led the Country Code chart while Germany's .de had the most entries overall with seven. Great Britain's .co.uk and the United States' .us also had strong outings, charting five domains each. .co.uk looked especially strong ringing up five of the top ten chart entries. Also new at DN Journal this week is a feature article on MyRebel.com's unique registrar leasing program. With the constant increase in domain values, you are seeing more and more domain experts advising those with large portfolios to become their own registrar - especially now that many registrars are essentially competing with their own customers to acquire and hold domain assets. The problem has always been that becoming an ICANN accredited registrar is an expensive proposition. The outlay to start up is likely to run between $50,000-$70,000, plus annual dues of another $8,000.
