Sad but true, those "former" colonialists were smart enough to lay the groundwork for
generations to come. English is SO deeply rooted in many parts of Asia (such as India and Hong Kong) that it is STILL used EXTENSIVELY in both the public and private sectors NOW.

But it's true that most Asians would not consider themselves "Asians" (except those living abroad perhaps). However, there has been a steadily growing trend in Southeast Asia that the younger generations are becoming more and more assimilated (e.g. watching the same TV drama series, some of which even starred by multi-national casts and dubbed into native languages when aired in respective countries).
