The Census Bureau estimated the population of the Minot area on July 1, 2011, at 72,067, up 3.6 percent. "We are fairly confident, based on building permits, traffic counts, occupancy rates, that the number is far higher," said David Waind, Minot city manager. The city is estimating about 50,000 residents, up 22 percent from the 2010 count of 40,888.
