Giles... with the 3d domains you have listed in your "sig"... I would think not.

Those are some really great domain names as anyone can see...I hope.

    Best,

    Hi,

Here are a couple of things to think about...

Most Likely anything in 3D is going to eventually end up on: "Video"

And it seems there will be cameras..coming out faster than I ever thought... with the "3d camcorder" already out.

So how far away can a "Video making".... 3d 'flip' camera' be?

That would mean not just content from movie studios and huge TV media....but from YOU & ME,

Almost everything ends up on video (sooner or later)... Most of your big Internet Marketers are using Video now as their #1 tool to market.

Anyone want to start the first site with "3D Videos" ONLY?

Here are a couple "keywords" that may prove good and you might still be able to get a pretty good "3d" domain...still.

    video
    videos
    3dimensional
using "3D" at the 'end' of domain...a 'surprising" number of SE searches seem to be 'ending in "3D"...and not staring with it. (check both Google and YouTube)
I hope this post causes some really good "brain storming" ~~ NOT "Major Migraines"....LOL

    Peace To ALL,
    Dan

I really do hope this post helps someone....

    Dan,

good to see someone else who has faith in 3D. Here are some names I have that fit closely with your thoughts in your post.

    3DCamcorders3D.com 3DCameras3D.com 3DDigitalPrints.com 3DCamcordersFHD.com 3DVideoCamerasFHD.com Camcorders3D.com 3DCamerasOnline.com 3DVideosMart.com SLRCamera3D.com

and a bunch more about 1,900 3D names - (38 Camera oriented 3D dot coms)

Sony have announced the release of 3D modles of their Cyer-shot range - available end August - Samsung will be releasing before the end of 2010 a Phone with 3D Camera (I have 53 dot com 3D Phone / Mobile / Cell names) - Nintendo 3DS 3D Games Console is now released (no glasses required) - (an yes I have 60 3D Games dot coms) - all are for sale

3D consumer products marketing is literally about to explode. Anything, anything that produces, provides or shows an image, still or moving, is a candidate for 3D

    In respect to a 3D Video footage site ...... good idea ..... need a business partner? - I have 3DSportPortal.com 3DTravel3D.com

    cheers,
    Mike

    Giles,

reference your hyphenated 3D names - have a look when you search for say 3D xxxxxx and notice the number of sub domains / articles with 3d-article ..... I am not a website guru but I think it is how html works when it gives a name to a page. I make a page on my site and title it 3D Cameras - html converts that to 3d-cameras.html. Hence as far as the crawlers go I do not envisage you will have any problems with recognition in searches. This I think is the beauty of 3D, you can have a hyphenated name and it doesn't look too bad and is not that foreign to many who would write 3d as 3-d (many do). 3D-XXX as a hyphenated name is much more user friendly than say many other hyphenated names, like for example website-designer, shopping-mall, office-desks etc. I personally think you will do well with those names (dirty on myself for not putting more thought into it earlier - )

    Good luck with them.
    cheers, Mike

(p.s. the comment - will be worth something in 15 months was directed at someone elses 3D name ..... can't recall which one now - alzheimers setting in)

    Nice post Mike,,,,

That is a lot of "3D" domains... but it only takes one or two sales to pay the reg fees in a year. I think you will do fine.

I am "betting" just like everyone else...but I like many was late to this "party".....so, I am just trying to figure out where it might go.

My best guess now...is into a lot of places, based on all the things I have read. ( I have still never seen anything in "3D" )

    I Now "DIGRESS"...

BUT, Then again I thought almost 100% sure, VERIZON would name their new IPTV service (a few years ago) VERIZON IPTV... But of course they had to "Brand" it by how they deliver their IPTV service...which is through "Fiber Optics"......HENCE... You get "VERIZON FIOS

Check your "settings" if you have Verizon FIOS TV...IT has a "separate" IP Address than your Computer...even though they come from the same broadband line.

Also, Xbox ~ Wii ~ PlayStation all have their own individual "IP Address"
Video is my main thing...everything ends up there... so I have a lot of 3D domains with "Video, Videos" in them.

But the actual huge "3d" movie cameras that are needed to make major 3D movies are really expensive... so I thought the smaller studios and production cos are going to have to lease or rent these cameras...and it turns out most of them do...so i have a few 3D domain related to this little niche.

    rent ~ lease these cameras

    iE: 3dcameraleasing.com

I also went with popular subjects along with my video concept:

    snowboarding
    skateboarding
    wakeboarding
    surfing
    skiing
    football
    futbol
    ads
    advertising
    Viral
    music
    consulting

    I own: 3Ddomainnamesales .com

I think I will try and JV with someone to have a great place specifically for "3d" domain name sales. ( I have a lot but not close to your number)

    Anyway...very good post!

BTW: That is NOT "Alzheimer's" your getting ~ Its "sometimers" ~ "Some Times I remember ~ Some Times I Forget

I know... I have it too.

    Peace!
    Dan

BTW: I know "Alzheimer's" is a devastating disease...so Iam not making light of it.

1900 domains at $8 a pop... do the math
I don't think you can easily turn 16K in sales when you are starting out with a portfolio of non-diversified handregs. The odds of winning the State lottery are much higher.

Also, more domains does not mean increased likelihood of a sale, it means more money wasted on domains nobody will ever buy.
Lack of diversification has had painful consequences for some people in the past

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I thinking shaving the portfolio by renewal time would be a wise move.

    Hi Katherine,

Lack of diversification has had painful consequences for some people in the past
I agree totally, on many different levels. You can be "diversified" in a area if they are all in the same industry IE: "3Dmovies .com, 3d consulting .com ~ but I know your talking about different area totally...and I agree 100%.

    ____

I thinking shaving the portfolio by renewal time would be a wise move
I agree 100%, and he does not have wait until there is less than 6 months left for reg....sell some for $1 profit if you have too....still a 10% profit or more.

Also, more domains does not mean increased likelihood of a sale, it means more money wasted on domains nobody will ever buy
I "GET THIS" ...and agree for the most part with all of it: I would change "Means more money wasted"...like it is 100% certainly...it my be 98%..so I would use the word "Can'...IMHO as always..lol

But if we all knew which domains people would buy...it would be a much easier game...I seen domains I would not give you "Reg" fee for sell for 10k -50k....when what i would consider much better domains for the person were available at the same time for much much less.

The odds of winning the State lottery are much higher.

I doubt you calculated these odds , I have not, but I would say your wrong on this, unless there is a state with a population of 3000 or less

!900+ 3D domains is a lot... But HOW DO YOU KNOW ...he does not own 10k ~ 20k+ domain names in may different areas and industry's?...and is WELL Diversified?

    Peace!
    Dan

The point I trying to make, while in theory one or two big sales 'can' pay for the rest of the portfolio, in practice it does not always happen, in particular when you have to sustain a large portfolio of domains that do not produce revenue (parked or developed). Again, do the math. It's not easy to make $$,$$$ in sales.
If it was, domainers should all be making good money, but most are losing money on their hobby (let's call it like it is).
Assuming it's 1900 .com domains at $8/year, you need to raise approx. 15K just to pay for renewal.
So it's kind of a wake-up call... don't get carried away with domain regs. Should I say, handregs are not the way to riches.

Sorry for the inconvenient, unwelcome feedback. Sometimes I care and I fear for fellow domainers

    Peace

    Hi Mike,

    In respect to a 3D Video footage site ...... good idea ..... need a business partner? - I have 3DSportPortal.com 3DTravel3D.com
I like those, because they can be very good "Specific Topic" Video Sites... where people can upload "3D videos" just on that subject...

I have few like this also... IE: 3dmilitaryvideos .com ~ 3dtornadoes .com

But for a more "general site"...but still specific for "3d" Videos only...

    I like:

    3dviralvideos .com

    3dviral .com

    Maybe because I own them..lol

But mainly because they are more "3D" General .....so maybe better for a wide variety of 3d videos on many subjects etc....

Sure Hope...ALL 3d content can be turned into outstanding 3d videos.....That Is The Question!...LOL

    Best,
    Dan

Sharp's 3D Smartphone Is a Few Months Away, No Glasses Required

Sharp doesn't have a huge handset presence outside of Asia, but according to a spokesperson this week that's all about to change in a big way. The company says they're putting their glasses-free 3D panels in a smartphone in 2010.

If anyone's in a position to bring a 3D phone to market, it's Sharp; their parallax barrier displays are likely what puts the 3D in the Nintendo 3DS, they've already got the world's first 3D camera for phones, and they've already committed to using 3D displays in multiple form factors.

It's also something we haven't heard even being considered by Apple or and of the Android manufacturers—though maybe for good reason. Even without the need for glasses, I'm not convinced 3D is something I'd want on my television yet, much less my phone. [Reuters]

    BTW:

I have NO idea why the poster of this and the people that commented on it are so "negitive on "3D".

Because it is coming in a big way...between the movie studios, media company's and television and mobile phone company's.... "Multi Millions if not Billions of "$"'s are coming into this industry over the next 1 - 2 years alone...they have already made major commitments to do so....

It might be because this is 3D's second coming - those of us who are old enough recall all the hype around the earlier version in the 1950s (though they didn't call it hype then, lol.)

Still, technology is more advanced now so, like a lot of people, I've got my own small collection of 3D names.

I have been following this thread for some time and finally decided to plunge into the 3d arena. Seeing that mostly all keyword combos have been taken i decided to venture into first tier cctlds - i.e. .de and .co.uk. after doing some initial search parameter research and competition i found one keyword that was unregistered in the .de but taken in many other exts with and w/o the hyphens (i know how much germans love the - so i was in luck) this keyword also has 33k exact global searches and 1.9k exact searches in Germany and 2.4k in the UK.

    Free3dModels.de
    Free-3d-Models.de
    Free-3d-Models.co.uk

Germany is also at the forefront of 3d animation, graphic design, and technology - having seen some of their 3d design magazines I was truly amazed at the depth of their knowledge and understanding of 3d as well as their integration of it and am fully convinced that this is the future.

Would like to hear some thoughts of 3d domains in cctld extension.

    Cheers,
    Ben

    Hi Monica,
It might be because this is 3D's second coming - those of us who are old enough recall all the hype around the earlier version in the 1950s (though they didn't call it hype then, lol.)

Still, technology is more advanced now so, like a lot of people, I've got my own small collection of 3D names.
Very good observation(s) and a very valid point(s)...

I might fall into the category...as I have never seen anything in "3D"...and I do think that some levels.. i have retained attitude up until about 3-6 months ago..

I did not see "Avatar" ...not because it was in "3D"...it was just really don't not enjoy movies with that sort of theme or content like that in ... "2d or 3d".

    BUT,

I can remember back to when I was a "kid"...that "3D" was basically a joke...and truth be told from all reports back then, it was.

    But,

With technology light years away from then... It really is a Whole New Story!

For gosh sakes...we were watching "black & white TV" and using "Rotary Phones"...

    ____

Speaking Of "Rotary Phones"....I NOW DIGRESS...LOL

I think it should become a "world law", that 4 times a year for 7 full days at a time...members of our society of 12 yrs old -25 years old.... should have to make ALL their phone contacts by using ONLY "Rotary Phones"...NO cellphones, text messaging, IM, facebook twitter..no Internet period..nothing but a Rotary Phone...

Just to give them a "little perspective" on life!

For some in the world...it would be great thing.

    BUT,

For Most...the "DISTRESS" ....of some of these kids would be almost unbearable.....LOL...(Really not LOL...but very sad)

    Ok....I am a 'sick person'...lol

I Will probably get accuse to the equivalent of "waterboarding"!

    ___

    Peace To ALL!
    Dan

BTW: I am just a "tad" over 25 years old...so my plan conveniently leave's me out!

You don't have to be that old to remember the red and blue glasses.

    Great Find Vijaya!

Maybe my "late to "3d" will payoff.... "Everything heads to VIDEO ~ Sooner Or Later"

I just can not believe they have come up with this...this fast. I thought it would be 1-2 years off.

I just hope "3D Video Quality" is great right off the bat...

They should start...pouring out from ALL the big companies...Apple ~ Cisco ~ Microsoft ~ Sony ~ Plus 50-100" others.

Like I said in a post above, after they already came out with the '3d Camcorder'

Post # 662: "So how far away can a "Video making".... 3d 'flip' camera' be?"

Now I hope I just have some 3d domains worth more than reg...LOL

Thanks again Vijaya for a nice news find....I think this now opens up a lot of different "possibility's"

    Best To All!

    Dan
