DNF$: 250 Location: LOS ANGELES | Aggregating info from Whois? I'm attempting to build a platform to review statistical information on domain names as a research study. To do so - I need to tap into the Whois database (Verisign). I can't seem to connect with them - at least a person. Can anyone provide info in this regard? Thanks, Scott Scott@dogmastudios.com |

You're going to have to come up with a better story than that for collecting personal information on a few million people... | |

I've never sent a spam in my life nor would I ever. I'm actually putting together information on the ages of domains, transfers, and other in order to build an algorithm that will provide a useful tool for domainers. Don't be so paranoid. DNF$: 433 Location: New York | If you still are willing to try, first you'll need WHOIS from Verisign which is outputted from port 43 via a TCPIP Socket Connection. Then, you'll need to parse the WHOIS server returned in this WHOIS. Verisign doesn't really have limits. Once you get WHOIS server you do the same type of SOCKET connection to the REGISTRAR whois server. Only the correct registrar that owns the domain has the full WHOIS. That isn't all. Most large registrars have limits. GoDaddy for instance 100 limits per ip. I am not going to tell you how to fully do it. Buy many books and you'll need to get there yourself step by step. But this should get you started. If you don't know much about development or how to create a SOCKET connection, it will be a very big problem.Last edited by ShytKicker; 11-07-2009 at 03:27 AM.. |
