Big brands owning keyword .org / net / info

    Hello,

    We are well aware that:

    Radio.com is owned by CBS
Rum is owned by Diageo for Captain Morgan
Bank.co.uk is owned by Barclays PLC
    Breakfast.co.uk by Kellogg's

    ....

I was wondering if any famous brands own some great keyword .org/net/info ?

    Thanks

I have a nice list of brands owning .com domains at: InternetDomainName.info.

(its just a blog site, I am not promoting any sales by referring to it). If people know of premium domains in other TLD's, please email me and I will add them to the site. It would be a nice resource.

There are at least two old threads here with some robust information, but I never have any luck finding them.
Thanks for your reply Wmloz. However my questions is specific extensions other than .com & cctld.

I've managed to find extensive list of generic .com owned by Big brand, but nothing on the other extension. And a few days search on the whois did not bring me any luck.

    Hello,

Here I am for a quick update:

So, yes not many companies bought into info, org, biz, net even the ones which are considered "domain clever".

In domain clever, I will put General Electric, Kraft, Procter & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson + a few pharmaceutical companies (by far the largest domains portfolio owners..based on my search)

These are the only names I found some far:
    3M own Projectors.org / MacAfee own Webimmune.net & Hackerwatch.org / Johnson & Johnson own Diaperrash.info / Office Depot own: depot.biz /

Limited to pharmaceutical companies: quite few info & biz registered, but those names seems to be trademark, so not really keyword/generic domains.

    I will continue my research.

Please feel free to add your contribution

I don't think you'll find a lot of generic non-.coms owned by corporations. These are primarily best for devlopment and not good for type-in traffic.

Sure, you'll see a TON of .coms (books.com is owned by B&N, pets.com is owned by PetSmart (even though it was an extablished company for a while)) but most will pass on the non .com domains since they are not interested in development, only pointing to a site of their's.

You will see a lot of non .com domains for brands (as mentioned in Ulysses' post) but these are not generics and more for their own brand's protection.

I just typed though a few dozen .net and .org for popular generic keywords and it seemed most fit in two categories, either a parked page or a blog of some sort. The rest either didn't resolve or were flagged as malicious. I think maybe one or two were actual businesses (but they were using that domain).

Now, here's a question - could a company own it stealthfully and have someone else develop it as a personal site but promote the company?

It's a thought - it wouldn't be too stealthful if everyone knew it. But - say someone who worked for Dell owned computers.net (100% hypothetical) and use it as a blog about computers but was good about advertising Dell computers on the site?

That whole list is .mobi. While many are generic non-.com domains it makes me think - did companies realize the potential too late but then tried to get in on the .mobi craze? I checked some in that list and they either forwarded to the company's main site or the page didn't resolve. I think this might be the limit - .org / .net and many .us / .info (and other ccTLD) domains may be too expensive so they resort to the lesser-valued TLDs but - if they're using them as a redirect, is it actually getting enough traffic?

    Yes, interesting list "THINK".

Boulevard.mobi or BLVD for Amex ?

I am still hopeful (dreaming...) that someone will come with some great generic .org/nef/info registered by BigBrand.
