| Yes they are generic.
That does not mean they are not TM's. For example Apple. Although generic...if you try to develop or park based on apple products...you are infringing on TM.
Also, Apple Computer...can also try to get the name if you try to start a company with "Apple". Because they can claim you are infringing on their TM. Apple Computers is so generic...that you can't just create a company called "Apple socks"..you would still be infringing on a TM based on a very popular product. They can claim confusion based on their popular product. (they do not want to let others think they are associated with this product)
Unless you sell apples...that's the only way you will stay away from potential problems. So...basically... yes they are generic...depending how you use them.
