I always see it from this point:
Whoever registered a domain name must have been thinking about that particular name and then made the decission that this name must be worth the money registering.
Sometimes people ( fellow domainers ) do not "see" the idea behind...coz how do we know what others think?
That does not mean that the name ain´t woth anything... honestly, there are a lot of names sold for big money that make me think "Never, never would I pay that for such c r a p p y name!".
This is one of the reasons why I am not too keen on appraisals, the one point that is never involved is the idea behind getting this name.
As stated before, I pre-registered my first .eu back in early 2002 and just a couple of weeks ago, when I finally had to confirm this pre-registration, I cancelled a lot of them.
A couple of those I got would not get any better appraisals than reg fee - but, they are all related to my company name - even with a hyphen ( yes, I do not mind hyphen, but that is another country related situation, because a lot of German companies actually DO use hyphen ).
If you ask other domainers, please, don´t be disappointed if they say "reg fee".
If you don´t want to hear that, don´t ask.

You made it personal by talking about my domain.
You had no idea who I was but you did it anyway.
Sorry but if I see domains like Job--search.eu I can't stay silent.
I was not reffering to your post.Originally Posted by godfrey90sf

Now, if you like Job--search.eu or .eu typos then I rest my case.
You might know what you are doing but a lot of people in this forum don't.Originally Posted by Azam.com

You are mostly right but some names are crap nomatter what.Originally Posted by godfrey90sf

I want to chime in on the "idea" notion with a historical anecdote. Once upon a time, in 1992 or so, I got a bunch of domain names with the idea of building online communities. This was before the web, I was thinking in terms of FidoNet BBS systems hooked up to the Internet. That was the big idea in my head.
People thought I was completely nuts. Internet hotrods ridiculed me. Non-technical people didn't understand at all... It didn't matter a lot -- after all, back then domains were free.
Domain value is indeed partly in the eye of the beholder.
But I was completely wrong too -- my ideas were small, and were rendered completely obsolete by the fast-onrushing web. So I never did much with the domains. 'Still have 'em. Mostly parked. I have a plan for each, but need to get a round tuit. Besides, things keep changing on the 'net, and so do my plans.
Which ones, you ask? Bar.com (an online "bar", where people could hang out and BBS with each other, get it?) and some related variants -- pub.com, grill.com, cafes.com, place.com, haven.com, etc.
The lesson I learned from the resulting explosion in the value of those names? If you have a choice between being really smart and being really lucky, take "lucky".
I'm completely dumb about today's domain industry -- but I wanted to add my support to the notion that it's good to base your domain-acquisitions on a good idea. Makes sense to me...
Geezer domainer -- bar.com, pub.com, grill.com, place.com, corp.com, haven.com, etc.

A lot of the newbies in this biz would profit from dvdrip's advice and avoid a lot of the hype with all these crap regs that will go absolutely nowhere. Sometimes the harsh words are beneficial to get a point across when it's needed to save a newbie and others from eternal .eu damnation. Domainers like dvdrip and other experts here have learned thru spending their own money and are now just trying to save the newbies or less experienced from suffering some of the same losses. They deserve thanks. Don't fall in love with your names, it's all just business.
Before jumping in head first, do some basic domain stats checking on these english keyword .eu names. That said, I'm all for .eu and hope it works.

Not that anyone gets this wrong, I fully agree with dvdrip and Stocdoctor and ( I did state that ) - If you do not like what you will hear about your domains, don´t post them.
As for Mike, I wish I had those ideas ( domains ) by that time. Yes, sometimes you never get around to deal with them as you want to...
Can´t think of a normal ( what is normal in this business ) person typing two hyphens in a row... but here in Germany we do have a lot of companies using one or two hyphens for their website.
Germans tend to "seperate words" more, a lot ( non-domainers ) would probably prefer ´cheap-hotels` `whatever-online´ and so on.
( Shame over me ) I nearly always do...Originally Posted by Stocdoctor

Great name, like it!

elaw would have been better, don't yeh think? But in some rare cases, like yours it's an worthwhile prefix to use. I myself was after elaw, but someone beat me to it. Good luck.![]()
Somehow I prefer the "i" here.Originally Posted by spietreser

yeah, "I" seems a little more versatile here with the law suffix.... but "elaw" rolls a little better off the toungue for me...
Have to agree with many of the posts that the majority of the .eu registrations I have seen here will be dropping in a year or two. The "really good" ones will be unlikely to get posted for the reasons that most of us already know.
Anyway, best of luck with your names guys & gals- they say there is a buyer for everything!
Agree, I can't believe how bad many of the names are in this entire thread. It's hard to believe names like mentioned here would be pre-regd as so many are without any value at all or semi-worthless.Originally Posted by Acroplex
P.S. It appears most all the truly good names were taken by places like pool.com and others with last minute trademarks, or multiple connections via the many semi-fake registrars they setup only for this purpose. The entire affair was a sham and should never have been permitted to happen by the registry what with their insanely easy Benelux kind of trademarks and new .eu registrar rules.

there is no single .eu yet developed !, i look forward for jobs.eu to be developed- for my yobs.eu at least
no rush no rush..
haha i couldnt have said it better myself, most of the eu names ive seen kicked around i wouldnt even spend $7 on if they were .com.
Sure i reged like 3-4 .eu's just to have a couple for the hell of it, but i hardly expect them to be worth anything in the next 10 years lol Some of the prices i have seen thrown around for these names are insane.
