    Expired domains

I'm looking at expired domains. But i'm starting to think i'm wasting my time.

Have any of you actually caught a expiring domain for a few dollars, and managed to sell it for a decent profit or had some decent type in traffic? I would apretiate if someone could pm me or message here and give me an example, such as purchased from 'website' for 'x' amount, sold at 'website' for 'xxx' amount. Just do a bit of bragging if you could

No but I got two (and both were not .com's) that had some decent traffic and turned them into successful sites (they've paid for themselves and keep up with regfees with some extra revenue). I also have a couple that pay for their reg fees parked, too.

People do flip dropped domains a lot, though (I've never tried).

I've got a few domains with enough revenue to cover reg fees. What technique did you use to determine the value of the domain before you purchased it?

    Hi

i and others here, could post a list of domains, that we've "caught" from expiring/pending deletion, and or from auction lists.

those same domains were later sold or kept as revenue streams and others are retained as "long term investments".

I'm very picky about what I back order but find a niche you're well versed in (maybe a hobby that you enjoy) and look for related domains.

If you know the hobby well, then you'll know what people in that hobby look for. For example, if you're into baseball cards then you want to look for related keywords: cards, mint condition, rookie, limited edition, baseball, annual sets, factory sealed, autograph, etc. Good generic keywords are always in demand, but keep them short. baseballcards.com is a goldmine but when you start to add in more, rookiebaseballcards, autographedrookiebaseballcards.com the value (and potential buyers) goes down.

Pick and choose what you want to invest in and then when you get them then decide to try to flip them or develop them. Yo u may not be able to set a dollar figure on a domain but if you stay in a niche you'll know what's in demand.

Yeah, always assume the name will never sell and pick the domain only if you're confident you can develop it (I always keep saying it).

Sometimes it really is like a lottery.

I have bought expensive expiring domains at NameJet/Pool/Snapnames and not received any offers. But a few times I have bought some $5 "close out" domains at GoDaddy Auctions and sold them for $xxx not long time after...

But I agree with the above statement that it is good to focus on sectors that interest you personally.

I once stumbled upon a capital city/country geo domain by pure chance that dropped a week earlier so i regged it, 10 months later sold it for $500.00.

Wish i could do that more often!

    Sometimes, maybe.
But domains are not lottery tickets.
While there is a certain amount of 'luck' involved in domain sales, it's no secret that the odds of selling are considerably higher when you have quality domains. If you have mediocre domains, then you will need luck (lots of it).
But you don't have to rely on fate, just invest wisely and reap the rewards.

Of course you can make alot of money through investing in quality expired domains that people drop because they just don't need/want the domain anymore, or maybe it belonged to a big domain company and they're trying to save $xxx, xxx on yearly renewal fees...
I am a full time domainer (4 hours max. per day) and I invest mainly in expired domains. I usually sell domains within 2 months of snapping them up. Here is a short list of a few I have sold over the past few months... I have bought many expired domains for reg fee and sold them for $XX to low $XXX on the forums, and a small amount of $XXX to $X,XXX sales to end users.

I will say the domain buying/selling "business" has greatly diminished in the last year or so and there are much less sales going on.
