Famous most successfull Domainers - Keving Ham or Rick Latona?

Who are the worlds most successful inspiring domainers and why?

Would you say Kevin Ham or Rick Latona or someone else.

I would love to know your thoughts and any stats would be most welcome

    Thanks

I don't know who it would be but not either of those guys. Both started in domains with a lot of start up money. I'd like to see someone who came from absolutely nothing and made it huge...I just don't know who they are.

I wonder what % of that is from the .cm typos.

rick latona does not make as much money as kevin ham but rick is popular.

just like britney spears is more popular than bill gates, well you know who makes the more money

each domainer is successful in his/her own realm, when the see their portfolio's become sustainable and profitable.

some have more notoriety than others, mainly because those who write dn news, blogs, articles etc., use the same group of characters in the "headlines" to draw attention.

since these are the people that you seem to admire and wanna be like...they write about them because they think that's what/who you want to know more about.

very seldom will you hear about the little guy who quietly trugs along his or her own route to profitability.

but every so often, these type of members may post what they know, give brief examples of accomplishments and then they settle back into their groove.

one must define their own mark and have their own goals...that's the only way to be successful.

    imo...

I don't think any in this industry is successful yet.

And as others are pointing out, most of those names you hear either had a lot of money from other ventures that decided to invest in domains, or had domains since the 90s and luckily held onto them and then sold them for big bucks or still have them. There is a lot of domainers like that, especially the names you always hear about.

Best is to focus on what you do, not what others are doing.

lol I agree with Cartoonz, when you find a buyer, youre successful.

While Kevin Ham may have success in the sense he makes money off of parking we dont know what he makes selling names.

Too many aspects or niches to nail down most successful, most successful in what realm?

I would say the most successful got in early, cheap and cashed out big. Otherwise the biggest payday for the likes with huge portfolios of generics is yet to come.

Rick L., he is a successful pawn broker, kind of reminds me of a car salesman or next gen Rick Schwartz but without the years of experience or portfolio. He did market himself well and bought a presence in the industry but he is not worth even mentioning in the same sentence as 20 other guys I can think of or most of the people he tries to deal with, Rick could be hear today gone tomorrow... like a lot of us.

For me spending several weeks on a auction all to make $40k minus cut to this guy, expenses, taxes etc so $10k for weeks of planning? Why do you think Moniker doesnt care so much lol

There is always someone willing to work hard instead of smart.

it's the chance at that 1 million dollar sale and a $150,000 payday that makes it worth it.

    .
True but that would have to happen often . $150k sounds like a lot of money and to a young man or woman who isnt married, has 2-4 kids, 2-3 cars, college tuitions etc etc etc and maybe a $XXXX a month mortgage it is.

Success to me is not based on one or even 100 trades at 5-6 figs+ it is years of successful trading and building a reputation while giving back to the community/industry. Success is KNOWING your industry, this comes with TIME, not buying your way into it.

Once in a while people will comment " oh you can afford to buy big and therefore sale big " , while it is true NOW not just 5 years ago I started with one $500 LLL.net and wasted $800 on new regs. That was it, no backers, credit cards, loans or starting a millionaire. It was hard work and experience that puts me where I am today.

Frank Schilling started with about $100k from his previous job and used credit cards, he was the first large scale domainer and showed Kevin Ham how to use PPC. Kevin asked him why he was buying so many domains when you can't develop them all.

This is how you could generate $20M per year in PPC after 3 1/2 years, you have to get domains for 6 months PPC.

    START $100K cash
    0 months $100K domains (earning $200K pa)
    6 months $200K domains (earning $400K pa)
    12 months $400K domains (earning $800K pa)
    18 months $800K domains (earning $1.6M pa)
    24 months $1.6M domains (earning $3.2M pa)
    30 months $3.2M domains (earning $6.4M pa)
    36 months $6.4M domains (earning $12.8M pa)
    42 months $12.8M domains (earning $25.6M pa)

Actually Mike Mann (buydomains.com) might have been the 1st large scale domainer.

I've yet to see or read one thing about Rick Latona that I admire other than his ability to have people constantly talk about him. The domains he tries and sell are either terrible or way over-priced.

Please do tell how you can go about acquiring domains for 6 months PPC or how these guys are doing it, as you propose.

It's just a model that fits the time frame and value of Frank's portfolio. He must have bought some high earners early on to sustain his buying.

Say his average price paid was 12 months PPC. Starting with $100K in 2004.

    2004 $100K pa
    2005 $200K pa
    2006 $400K pa
    2007 $800K pa

That's way short of the $20M per year he was making in 2007.

Dude, credit cards and venture capital at a time like this is your best friend. Trust me. Banks are able to give you $1 on credit for every penny that they have.

CitiBank was able to leverage themselves 1:150 before financial crisis! Look at them now! Do you know what this means? This means, as an example, they had in their vaults $1000 in cash, and gave loans for $150,000 for each of these $1000 in the vaults! That is why they are where they are now. The entire United States of America has been operating like this.

I have fallen back on my credit cards, at first mainly because I kept forgetting to pay since I had 15 of them. Then I once fell so much on one they called me about one credit card and wanted to whipe out my debt ($10,000 at the time) if I pay them only $1800!

Then it hit me. They NEVER had this money to begin with. It's all FAKE DIGITAL inflation / leveraging, which is why this financial crisis is huge, and probably only the beginning of it.

Ever since Credit cards and loans have become my best friend. Don't believe me? Ask some of the worlds largest investors.

    PS
Well this was all in response to Chris sentence about credit cards, but you edited. :(

There was a really famous domainer named "Mocus" that made it big here on the forum and basically retired at 27, drives around in a V12 Benz now with the top down and A/C on (don't ask me how I know this), hangs out with the industry elite and just buys domains all day long at auctions paying whatever he has to for names he really likes.

I heard they actually deliver live fresh caught Tuna fish right to his house to make sushi with (his chef) and he even eats the still beating live heart right from the tuna, crazy shit man! But this "Mocus" character is a very top secret identity only known to a very privileged few here on DNF. I heard he once even had a guy thrown in the everglades for backordering & catching a domain name he accidently dropped. Luckily the guy just narrowly escaped the jaws of a huge ferocious alligator that chased him back to shore. He gave Mocus back the domain later the next day.
