i think the point is already having a potential, rather than just having a name and hope.

the chances of success are higher as would the roi from the sale.

when i first started selling names, i did a lot of "flippin" on the forums by registering names that i saw members were seeking in Domains Wanted sections.
even if they didn't get sold the first time around, the cycle repeats as do the requests for the same type of names.
the ability to hold them until the next cycle is when they got sold.

eventually, you learn the cycles and what people are looking to buy
so you try and tailor your portfolio to meet those expected needs

I believe in order to make some sales marketing is a must, otherwise who would know what you're selling.and cold calling actually works (made 2 sales this year just by cold calling businesses)
