    GoDaddy Serious DNS Issue

    Hello,

We have had reports that for some users our website http://zymic.com (registrar GoDaddy) is redirecting to another domain name we do not own http://svenekretnine.com

Upon inspection it is only http://zymic.com
    Screenshot: http://i33.tinypic.com/8xipw2.jpg

Yet if I type www.zymic.com I see the correct version:
    http://i37.tinypic.com/2n69945.jpg

No WWW (or any other subdomain) is pointing to an IP address: 72.232.162.50, this so happens to be the IP address http://svenekretnine.com resides on. We have not been hacked, this is a known IP address to us; an old server IP we used YEARS ago.

We use ZoneEdit for our DNS, if you do a WHOIS you'll see we use their name servers. However the problem is at godaddy->parent servers (not ZoneEdit). ZoneEdit are returning the correct entries for my nameservers but the root dns servers are being fed the A record 72.232.162.50 rather than referring me to ZoneEdit.

    You can see this at,

    # dig A zymic.com @D.GTLD-SERVERS.NET

    ; <> DiG 9.3.4-P1 <> A zymic.com @D.GTLD-SERVERS.NET
    ; (1 server found)
    ;; global options: printcmd
    ;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 16020
    ;; flags: qr rd; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 2, ADDITIONAL: 2

    ;; QUESTION SECTION:
    ;zymic.com. IN A

    ;; ANSWER SECTION:
    zymic.com. 172800 IN A 72.232.162.50

    ;; AUTHORITY SECTION:
    zymic.com. 172800 IN NS ns14.zoneedit.com.
    zymic.com. 172800 IN NS ns19.zoneedit.com.

    ;; ADDITIONAL SECTION:
    ns14.zoneedit.com. 172800 IN A 209.126.137.108
    ns19.zoneedit.com. 172800 IN A 216.227.210.10

The reason the www. entry works is because they are not returning the record..

    ]# dig A www.zymic.com @D.GTLD-SERVERS.NET

I spent 30 minutes on the phone to GoDaddy, the conclusion was that because we use a third-party DNS provider, it is a problem with them, and not Godaddy. This is INCORRECT. I have then since emailed them multiple times and getting back the same responses, such as:

We have confirmed via internal as well as third party DNS tools that the nameservers set for the domain in question are as follows:

    * NS14.ZONEEDIT.COM
    * NS19.ZONEEDIT.COM

These are not Go Daddy controld nameservers.

If you would like to have control over this domain's DNS, refer to the following:

To modify your domain name's name server settings to 'park' your domain name

    • Select 'Domain Manager' from the 'My Products' menu located on the left hand side of the page.
    • Check the box next to the domain(s) you wish to modify.
    • Click 'Nameservers' from the menu above.
    • Click the circle next to 'I want to Park or Forward my domains'.
    • Click 'Ok' to save changes.
    • Allow 48 hours for the changes to take effect*.
It has now been 24 hours since this issue has cropped up, and my website still directs (for some users only) to another website.

Does anyone have any close contacts to GoDaddy? I am running out of luck here and this is such a serious problem.

    Thanks
