Apply the same theory of Stock Market into Domain Market. In stock market, people buy good stocks during bad time, then hold it till the Stock Market booms. When it reached to peak of boom, sell it.
where is inflation 2009?

I don't mean to stop the economy discussion, but DN Journal had an excellent article a year ago (dnjournal.com/articles/aftermarket/warner-valuation-factors.htm) on what motivates buyers. On the flip side, it can also be used as a guide for the type of domains to invest in.
OK back to the economy.

John, Terminator Salvation comes out on May 22. Any more of these doomsday scenarios and you'll have a secure job for the fifth installment.
I've have a buyer that's been playing the waiting game for the past 2 months, I usually quote my price once and dont do follow-ups. Anyway, She owns an accounting firm and I happen to have the name of her company in .com. She writes me again last week and delivers this;
We have discussed this and feel $2000 is too high. If you would go $1000 we would be interested. In today’s economy we feel $1000 would be fair.
I counter offer with $1500 and she writes;
I would need to discuss this as my partner still feels that $1500 is too much at this time with the economy.
Great, now we have buyers playing the "economy card"

The doomsday message is out.
I agree, when they make lowball offers for the .com I point them to the other TLDs. Once they develop these, more power to your .com
I'd tell her to come back later when she has the cash but you cannot promise it'd be available.
