I just realzied that whenever I get one of these it's never one of my higher end domains (heh, do I really have any? ) but more like my lower end ones (maybe very low $xxx at best). Maybe they think a "professional" who wouldn't fall for it wouldn't want domains like these and can easily get amatures with these scams.

The domains are always parked, too, never devleoped.

in many cases the domains aren't even registered. So I make it my hobby to make them register the domain and then bail out ;-)

I think they just scan/spam a whois database and send them out in huge numbers. The sad part is that I'm sure they make a lot even from the .00001% that falls for the scam.

Just look at Jeremy Jaynes, who was one of the world's top spammers... he got a 1 in 30,000 reply rate and was still making $750,000+ a month.

It's my opinion that they target parked domains because nine times out of ten, a parked name is owned by a domainer. The names that are really any good are typically owned by somebody who knows what he is doing, so by inquiring on recently-registered, b-minus domain names that are parked, they have a pretty sure bet it's someone who's looking to turn a profit on the other end. Seeing as how they only paid $10 to register the name, if an appraisal is all it will take to get this "buyer" to whip out his checkbook, then he won't think twice about doing it.

The allure of an offer just blinds all logical thinking... isn't it the buyers' problem to determine what it's worth?

Ah. Let's hope there is no grace delete even for the registrars in those TLDs

You may not be able to report them for running an apprasial scam if you have not gone through that process with them, but you CAN report them for sending SPAM, and that may result in their Hosting account being closed and their domain suspended. It doesn't take much time and really does help to shut these people down.

The sad part is that its only $7 to get a new domain and maybe an extra $10 for an email address with a different host. Minimal investment.
