Something really funny is going on in the idn land.
Every idn collector (collector - from collecting garbage) is putting up for sale his entire portfolio.
At the rough estimate there are over 20,000 geo/generic/porn/games names being offered now. That's up from 500 just a year ago. I am counting across all idn exchanges, including Arabic, Russian, Chinese & Amerikansky.
I can see premium names where the guy provides a link to show where the name was traded for $1K 5 years ago, and now he is willing to part with it at $50 or less! (see some offers at idnforums.org for example)
The prophet from Dorset is in deep denial. You may remember him:
Old, Bald
Fat & G*y.
I didn't say stupid. Stupid he's not. He didn't use own money, but rather his 'perpetual' bachelor friends. And boy, they're loaded!
Their only obligation is to keep their tiny dogs happy.
End is near?![]()

dn-101: the closet IDN basher who rants while he holds one of the largest IDN portfolios around. LOL
Did anyone here read the Verisign 2nd quarter earnings call...reiterating Verisign's anticiipated future growth in idn.com and reconfirming idn.idn (.com, .net) is in the pipeline. Nice of them and ICANN to do something for the 70+ percent of the world that doesn't read or speak English.
Did anyone see what made the #2 sale on DNJournal this week?
Hint: $60k for sale of рф.com.

OK dn-101:
Show us some links to the "portfolio sales". Maybe you refer to EH's offering to let people cherry pick from his portfolio at $1k per name?
He did sell a quick 5 IDN names for about $5,000.
At any rate, how about just give us the links on where "everyone" is selling their portfolios.

рф.com is an one-hit wonder, since it's the .com matching the .рфAny other grand examples of IDN success? Personally I rank IDN's a jot above .tel
I'll let a few others post the dozens of xx,xxx sales this year.
Hundreds of millions of dollars are being spent on IDN development and rollout between ICANN, Verisign and the hundreds of foreign registrars.
Maybe they know something we don't.
At any rate, you are lucky to live in a time when you will get to witness history in the making as the internet develops in ways none of us even dream.
Handheld devices and cellphones are the computers of the future....billions of people that don't speak English may take a liking to URLs in their own native languages they can actually read and use. IDNs are a really simple concept, they are to make the internet more user friendly for those that don't speak English. Radical huh?

Sorry, not sold. But great, if it works for you.
He he,
now Bill sounds just like the Defender of the Faith
while the Oracle is hiding in his bunker
Naw, not my role....but I do think having a small percentage of your portfolio in IDNs could be a good investment, especially Top Tier generic keywords (aka- equivalents that you would pay xxx,xxx in ascii.com for), as well as IDN City names in .com (most ccTLDs are reserved by the governments). There is an immense amount of money and publiciity supporting the development and rollout of IDNs and they should prove to be good investments if you are willing to hold for a few years.
Internet users worldwide that don't read, write or speak English certainly prefer URLS in their native languages .....but you know that or you wouldn't have invested in IDNs yourself. LOL
Here's a bit going on in India these days with local language websites...IDN urls should prove to be very popular for handheld devices and the next generation of smart phones.

NEW DELHI: As you enter the Google office in Gurgaon, you are drawn by the overwhelming smell of fresh ground coffee. It’s Thursday, yet employeesGoogle's are moving around in jeans and tees.
But before skeptics start frowning at such apparent manifestation of Western culture, the 30-something product manager of Google India, Jagjit Chawla, quips: “We are gearing up to benefit for the next big thing—the Indic Web.”
He explains: “Only 7% of the Indian population knows English and only 7% uses the Internet. There is very little content available in the local languages. The next wave of Internet users will be from Indic web.”
So big is the opportunity in the local languages sphere, almost all infotech companies worth their name have jumped the bandwagon. When just a couple of weeks ago, India heralded the new symbol for the rupee, it wasn’t just an emphatic assertion about the Indian economy having arrived on the global stage, it was also seen as a symbol of the coming of age of the Indian language script in a modern avatar.

This again?
Yes, all users who are ever going to use the Internet are on the Internet already. And they ALL speak and know English.
More drama from the Queen of IDN drama.
P.S. Where are those portfolio for sale links? And where are those prices so cheap? Oh, there aren't any? Blah, Blah, Blah....
All prices are valid for 72 hours.
One thing I never got (and couldn't get a straight answer) is people registering domains like lower-mortgage-rates.de. While the domain itself isn't bad, who in Germany would type in Lower-Mortgage-Rates? That ccTLD isn't promoted well in English speaking countries and I'm sure most Germans are browsing in German (mostly).
Sure, hacks are one thing (goget.it, comesee.me, etc..) but is used-car-sales.es really worth it, especially for parking / traffic? I can understand someone being desperate enough that they can get an English keyword / non English ccTLD for development (heh, some would be cheaper to just buy the domain in .us etc.. than the yearly fee!).
I'm thinking a lot of people are not renewing domains and trying to cash in on them before they drop, mainly due to the economy and dropping domain prices.

Sarcle is just kidding....
Why would you not have faith that the Chinese will adopt ChineseIDN.com and ChineseIDN.cn domains (to go along with the existing use of English.com and English.cn). Most of their internet users don't speak English and certainly this will make surfing the internet and remembering sites easier.
Advertising a website in English (when 80% of your population does not speak English) really does not make sense. A huge amount of NNNN.com websites are Chinese, because it is easier for them to remember numbers than English.....or they resort to bookmarking to get back to sites. Same with Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Arabic and hundreds of other languages etc etc. Also seems that proper IDN keyword .com and ccTLD would be a plus with rankings of websites etc.
Ah well....time will tell, people are trading in IDNs with investors and natives and many doing quite well. Russian IDNs in particular get good traffic and clicks, although the depth and quality of advertisers keeps the click rates pretty low. IDN.IDN are just getting out there, many only in the last 2-3 months. Gonna take a while, no one predicting a get rich quick scheme....and certainly no one dumping portfolios like the OP suggested (and BTW, we are still waiting for his links to those sales).

It's time to wake up - smell the coffee - and get rid of all that junk with a NEGATIVE PV.
At $10 a year your idn has a NEGATIVE value of $100, if you decide to keep it for 10 sorry years.
Okie dokie. I'll be awaiting your pm with all your IDN for sale at reg fee; and since they have negative value that's a deal. I'll even give you a few extra dollars for your troubles. I have Paypal waiting.
It's time for you to step up to the plate. Or are you all just pointless talk? It's time to walk the walk.
Again, I'm waiting for your pm with your IDN.
All prices are valid for 72 hours.
