I remember checking available domain names at Network solutions and having them locked for a few days during that time period in 2007-2008. I have not seen that again or at any other registrars lately. In fact the bulk of the tasters are gone and it did get to the point to where when the name I wanted dropped and was taken I just checked Whois and if it was a taster I would just wait until 4 days after it dropped and it would be available again.
