    Registrars Refusing Transfers Beware!

I am getting real tired of registrars who make it hard to transfer
    names out of.

My recent attempts to get names out of Dotster &NamesDirect.com have been futile.

I think registrars should have to provide some sort
of reasonable explanation as to why they are doing this.

I don't have the time to to mess around with emails back and forth and waiting days for responses.

We are all too busy to worry about what should be a simple
    transaction.

Hey Names Direct & Dotster: This is BAD BUSINESS and I'm going
to make noise until you stop the practice of DENYING
simple transfer outs with NO explanation.

If I have to, I will get others who are also frustrated
by registrars attempts to hold customers hostage
and find the correct means to get this info to ICANN
or a good attorney who can lay out the law to them.

I can smell class action on this one.

So far my list is Dotster and Names Direct.

Wake up Registrars, we ain't gonna take this much longer!!!

I had a problem getting a name out of Dotster. Turned out it was the losing reseller that had contol of the admin and wouldn't confirm the transfer.

It is illegal to refuse an domain owners request to transfer the domain to another registrar.

This does not mean "sue" - just means folowe the rules and put up with delays. NetSol is the worst, takes 10 requests to transfer a domain out of them sometimes.

You indicated “My recent attempts to get names out of Dotster & NamesDirect.com have been futile.”

It is impossible to determine if the problem is at the registrar’s end or on your end. For instance, if it was an .info or .biz, you have to obtain the auth info code in advance of the request. If you did not and requested a transfer or indicated the wrong auth code, it would be denied. There are many other situations that could be a problem on your end – domain expired, domain customer locked, domain in UDRP, domain has a headache, etc….

So rather than characterize your problem and badmouth the registrars (although many should be bad mouthed), could you explain the exact details (domain extension, expiration, dates of attempted transfer, reason for denial, registrar’s response, etc) of your problem?

You indicated “I don't have the time to mess around with emails back and forth and waiting days for responses.”

I am no friend of registrars (I have a long tread on my negative NS experience if you search), however, when you registered the domain, you agreed to that registrar’s transfer process. Usually, it reflects the registry’s requirements. There is no such thing as transfer on demand. I have transferred out of more registrar’s than I wish to remember having dealt with numerous landrushes (.info, .biz, .us, &.info2) and drop catchers. Of 30 some registrars I can quickly think of, transferring out of Dotster was the easiest, Joker required precisely responding to E-mails with double negatives translated from German, and NS was a 3 month nightmare that I would like to forget. I have had no dealings with Namesdirect.

So if you provide specific details of your problem, we can provide specific detailed helpful suggestions based on our experience.

    Good luck,

William, I am well aware of issues that might prevent
a name from being tranferred out.

These names expire in approx 30 days from now and do not
have any sort of lock or problem

The registrars ARE doing this to be difficult.
I would not badmouth any company unless
I was Absolutlely sure it was something wrong
    that they were doing.

I have transferred many names from other Registrars
    with no problems.

This is an ongoing problem that has been voiced by other members as well.

    This critisism is richly deserved...
