Replacement for Bido? Suggestions...

OK, so I know there are people around here that are furiously working on new domain auction platforms and ideas. I'm not, but I wanted to provide some suggestions for those that are, and maybe others will join in and with what they would like to see in a new domain auction.

1. I definitely think there is a niche to be filled by an auction that has decent quality, lower end names for auction. Names that sell in the XX to X,XXX range.

2. There needs to be some sort of filtering of names to eliminate the real junk and names priced far too high.

My suggestions for a new auction:

1. Let people list/submit domains just like a regular auction site (data,reserve,start price,etc.) but have all of those listings go into a queue that is not visible to the general public.

2. Have a small committee/group go through the queue and approve names for the next auction based upon quality, value, etc.

3. Have weekly general auctions, and perhaps monthly themed auctions.

Anyone else care to comment? I kind of liked Bido, but there was just too much extraneous stuff going on there with the voting, and chat, etc. and too many auctions on too many days. I don't have the time to go through listings every single day.

Never work because you could get 2 domainers never agreeing a valuation never mind a committee of some sort,i think your idea is a fail imho and btw you can sort the prices out with sedo anyhow like somebody said you need 10 mill.........

ok maybe thats an exaggeration but bido invested well into 6 figures and could not make it work abeit there platform was terrible,like you said to much going on....

You don't have to get unanimous agreement, 3 out of 5 in the group think the name is saleable at the reserve price or start price that the seller set. You don't need a lot of capital to start a small niche auction. There are a lot of decent names for flippers and developers that fall into that 30-60 dollar range that isn't well represented by any of the big boys. GoDaddy - too much garbage to wade through. sedo minimums are above this low end range.

You really don't think there is room for an auction that concentrates on the lower end of the cost spectrum, but filters for some value? Look at how many names sell just on the forums in this range each week.

I guess my overall point is - I know people are already developing sites with the thought of replacing Bido. I just want to give some feedback to those people of what I would look for in a new site. What are you looking for? Or do you just not want to see another domain auction at all?

I never liked the BIDO idea from the start, and DNKO which I DID like seems to have changed into something other than what it was. I'd like to see the community get together and figure out what the best solution would be and create an outline that could serve as a template for those that want to serve this marketplace.

Auctions need to be longer than 1 hour and the EPIK 60 second gimmick is really odd.

On a typical day Bido would sell for low $,$$$ and I believe they took a 10% cut. My day jobs pays more...

Of course, low value transactions take place on the forums every day, in that sense there is a market.
But nobody can do heavy promotion for a platform that generates such paltry revenue. It's just a waste of time (and money).
Sites like sedo or ebay work because they have volume.

Well if you know people who developing sites to replace bido,you best tell them bido failed because of them low value and low quality domains before they waste their time money and effort just like bido did........
