Rule of thumb - check your email!

About 3-4 months ago I sent an email to the owner of a domain that I was interested in. I offered to buy it. Sure, the offer was a little bit of a lowball but it wasn't unreasonable and left plenty for negotiation.

I never received a response. I sent another email about a month ago with a slightly higher offer and again, no response.

Now, it's expired and in the renewal process.

They dropped the domain and could have easily gotten some money for a domain that they didn't want. :(

Now I need to wait for it to go though the process (BTW - how long it is from when a domain's renewal date goes by and it is on TDNAM if the domain was with GoDaddy?).

Yeah but the previous owner will never know and will never learn any lesson from this if e-mail adress was with that domain name

Nope, the WhoIs wasn't with the domain. Eh, they lost out and it might be cheaper for me to get it though a drop catch service.

Their loss.

It has happened to me as well. Possibly the E-mail was no longer valid/working.

Now even crazier stuff: more than once I contacted owners of expiring domains, their reply was along the lines of "I want $5000", yet they wouldn't renew the name at once. A few days later (these were ccTLDs) the names dropped and were caught by other people (not me). Has happened twice recently. As if they are not reading my E-mails: "Your domain xxxxx is expiring and will be deleted soon, are you interested in selling the domain ?"
