Very good point NT.... The TLD simply makes it easier to block it altogether.. And you can count on most businesses, Federal, State and Local governments to block it out as well. For those developing a .XXX site, can you imagine how much traffic would lost just in blocks?

The people pushing this TLD are pushing it for the same reasons as dot Mobi and other useless TLD's, GREED. And again, the ones who are going to get short changed are the resellers who paid ridiculously high prices for them.

if government etc would want to block porn, they could have done so already a long time ago, look at countries like China, Dubai... where adult content has been blocked successfully since many years. Of course there are always some adult content websites which can be reached, but the majority can be blocked easily, it doesn't need a .xxx extension for that.

The adult industry will register some keywords and their own "brands / .com domains", other than that, I doubt that they will push the extension or even use it in marketing campaigns.

    He he he...

Even Wired.com is running a piece on it.

How useful and necessary is .XXX?

Even when .xxx is finally approved, new or existing adult sites will not have to use .xxx. Any legislation in the U.S. to compel such a move would likely be struck down by the Supreme Court on free speech grounds, given how the court ruled on a website-labeling provision pushed by the U.S. government in the Clinton administration.

So here’s to .xxx. May it live and be mostly ignored.

    I have to disagree....

Obama would first shake them down for a few Billion, and if they didn't pay, then he would turn it off.
