.xxx sucks unless you advertise the hell out of it the .com will always be king

the monster mega keywords like sex.xxx and porn.xxx will get some traffic of course but the others will be quite a strettttch.
I'm buying credit, banking, loan, insurance related generics in .com, .net, .org with high search volumes/traffic. Will consider typos too! - PLEASE PM with name, info, & asking price!

The adult industry is not too happy with this news. There is this fear that the conservatives will try to push for a law that forces adult sites out of .com and only in .xxx extension.

It's still difficult to rank websites at .mobi, .me, .info, .biz, .us, .travel, etc. Obviously it can be done with enough links and content, but Google still seems to favor the traditional extensions [.com, .edu, .net, .org, and .ccTLD].

It would seem that Google is the main gatekeeper on a TLD's success, with all other factors playing second fiddle, even above the demand/usage factor. The question is how long will they continue to dampen the ranking ability of newer TLDs with their algorithm. And... is it a trust issue for them, or a nuisance issue [growing pool of wasted brand protection dollars]? My guess is the later.

Google is getting harder on even fresh regged .coms and ccTLDs, with age delays, complex trust factors coming into play, etc. I can't imagine starting a new business with a new extension, as you're likely looking at substantially more promotion dollars to get search ranked vs even a new .com. As far as rankings go, you're better off with sexshopnewyork.com than sexshop.info.

Obviously Google could change the game with a simple algo change. Once the general public comes into greater contact with an odd extension via Google's search results, it's mindshare and type-in traffic potential will likely increase.

I think all domainers should shout "let the idiots waste their money".
unless they are alone, in which case they should shout : "let's grab a few, just in case".
ans so the .xxx registry(and the others that would get approved) will sell a few million names, 95% parked.
and 1 year after the landrush there most of the domains will drop like flies....unless that unexpected thing that everyone thinks about happens

The decision came in lieu of a lawsuit against ICANNT who once again has proven to be a spineless team of good-for-nothing pencil pushers. The .xxx in no way will it affect .com or the adult industry. It's simply put, a reversal of the Bush administration's ultra-conservative backwards thinking. Shame really, that with new gTLDs in the horizon, .xxx won't have the thunder it deserved to have. A Pyrrhic victory for the .xxx registry.

I thought it was 14 millions? Unless you are talking about the recent RE-sale which I am not aware of!

Probably was an overpriced purchase but how does .xxx make .com less valuable ?

It'll be a joke like all the other new tlds .tel/.asia, etc. until the government makes it mandatory for adult content. Then it won't be so funny.

It hasn't really been "approved" in the way that people generally think of the word. ICANN has approved the .xxx TLD pending other input. There is a long way to go before .xxx ever makes it into the root zone and opens for registrations.

That will never happen. You cannot force the "cleansing" of the oldest and biggest commercial TLD - especially when such an agenda would be coming from the US only. There are almost 200 countries in the world.

Wouldn't be surprised if many ISPs filter it out to please happy parents who don't want their kids going to porn sites. It's a pointless extension, and at a time when the adult industry is reeling from tube sites/piracy.
