There is large consumer demand for the product but the domain receives little traffic

Have any of you experienced this? You own a 2-word generic .com domain name. The name is a generic product (eg, air conditioners, water coolers, cordless phones, etc) that you know a lot of people own and there is a steady consumer demand for it, yet the .com domain itself receives little traffic both from direction navigation and the search engines. Your keyword search traffic research shows that the product name itself isn't searched very often. Yet a lot of people own the product.

Is it worth creating a mini site or a full-blown developed web site for such a domain?

Sounds like lack of SEO. I think it would be worth AT LEAST a mini site. For the keywords you mentioned, it would be very rare that anyone types in airconditions, water coolers, or cordless phones if they can simply type in costco.com, walmart.com, sears.com and know those products are their already. If anything they are typing that into google and trying to find the best bet.

But yeah, devving will get you somewhere, if your just parking and hoping for traffic, you are going to be waiting a long time for some real revenue.

I've never had any luck with products where most people don't associate it with e-commerce. As an example - lawnmowers, refrigerators, dishwashers, etc. Are you ever going to buy one online?

There are some niches where brick and mortar will always be king. You still may want to put up a minisite or review site and see if you can get some traffic and Adsense earnings.

You can sell almost anything online.

There are however, some things you simply can't. Car batteries are a prime example.

If your car doesn't start and you know it's the battery, you need one there and then, you can't wait the next day or two for it to be delivered. Also there is the issue of logistics, seeing as batteries (lead acid batteries) are classed as hazardous goods and most large carriers such as UPS will not handle them.

Of course you can buy refrigerators, dishwashers and even lawnmowers online. Just some things you simply can't because of various factors.
