Typos is there a science?

Hi
I have never really researched typos. What is the best way to find out if you have a real typo? I always figured you would type the typo into the search engines and see the results?

What makes a good typo besides a common misspell?
Is it the ending letter? Like picture typed in as picturt? Is it a double vowel? ie book typed in fast to bok?

There has to be some sort of guideline most people use. Any help would be nice.

Possible reliable way will be to ask a thousand people to type a specific domain , a thousand times and do the stats.

I can't remember where, but there's a free service that gives you the most common typos of whatever word you put in.

mistakes at the end, weather missing letters or switched letters are 100x better than mistakes in the beginning.

domaintools offers a typo tool

The domain research tool (just search this forum) has a built in typo generator but the basics are easy.

Say the keyword is computers.

Computres is
Cpmputers is
Cqmputers is not

Keys close to the keys you need - common misspellings, etc..

I use that script to find my typos. Usually I just search for skipped letters, double letters, and reverse letters.
