What would be the absolute best domain that you could have for Rio 2016?

From what I understand, all domains with the words 'olympic' or 'olympics' are trademarked. Together are a number of others including all city-year or city-GAMES combinations.

Here is a list of trademarked slogans for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics

What do you think would be the absolute best domain name for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro that would not be a trademark infringement?

The Olympics vigorously defends any possible TM infringements.
And they will win.
It's better to stay away from that area altogether.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

But - if you really want to try this niche - stay away from anything realted to Olympics. Try geo + keyword domains - like RioHotels, RiodeJaneirtravel, and so on.

Register anything with Olympics in it - maybe even Rio de Janeiro and 2016 then you may end up with a WIPO.

The best would be Rio2016.com or Brazil2016.com

Rio2016.com sounds very good for that theme. But it is already taken in all popular extensions.
I own Rio de janeiro in .name extension and Rio city in .info extension, i hope i will not have problems

I doubt you'll have problems with those, they are generic city names.

I don't know how Vancouver could trademark 'Vancouver 2010' or 'Canada 2010'. What if you were promoting something else in Canada that year, or promoting travel in 2010, surely they wouldn't have a case. Even 'vancouver games' or 'canada games' is a stretch, if you don't have olympic related content on your site.

The key is to stay away from the word 'Olympics'.

And remember folks, the native name is Brasil - with an "s".
