All's fair in love and war and domaining
Grab it if you can
it's all swings n roundabouts in domaining - unreal how many times I've sold dns dirt cheap to other domainers and then noticed the same names sell for $xxxx + - thats the name of the game, spot a bargain, grab it and profit from it.
About to drop - you mean it's about to be deleted and available to register? IMO fair game.
Pink has it right - most of us know what is dropping and when. They decided to let it go and you're free to snag it.
I've dropped a lot of names the past year only to see the majority of them picked up quickly - some by DNF members.![]()

Wow, that statement just made me realize something that should have been glaringly obvious to me for years.
Go do a search for "cheap dns" anywhere. Notice the #1 result.
And all I thought about was DNS when I did it, as in Domain Name servers, not Domain Names. DOH!
Is it me?

while it is obviously "fair game", the answer to your question should come from your own answer to this -
"If it were my name and it was dropping, would I want someone else from here to tell me about it?"
Seriously... you have to already know this or you never would have asked the question in the first place. The idea of forming your own personal moral compass by consensus here is more disturbing...

1. Contact him and let him know. Good karma.
I lol at people trying to make themselves look good here. I think its all fair game and know everyone here would be all over bidding on a dropped gem.
That's how I feel and, having read most of the other replies, recognise it's why I probably won't make it in domaining. In most countries - France being at least one exception - there's no legal obligation to stop to help someone in trouble, but many people do because they like themselves better that way and find it easier to live with someone they like.
How likely is it that the current owner - a fellow member - has, through pressure of one kind or another, forgotten to renew? If the name really is as good as the first post suggests, why would it be dropped without being offered for sale or auctioned off?
I do think this question was asked in the hope that the answers/comments would be reassuring for someone who really wants this name but would also really like to get it in a completely fair and upright way.
