My first domain name wasn't that bad: DigitalTriathlon.com. I registered in 2001. I'm a photographer and I wanted to cover triathlon events around the world!. I didn't renew the domain name and somebody else registered.

I bought videopostcardusa.com in 1996 because videopostcard.com was taken I had dreams of creating a site so I could sell VHS tourism videos of cities across the US. I was so close and yet so far away. The domain I think is available.![]()

3gConnection (dot) com...
Why? Dunno....seemed a good idea at the time. I should have sold it in 2007/8
I registered two that day (maybe more, who knows)
draggar.net for obvious reasons (and the owner of the .com wanted a lot of money for it)
doteclub.com for my wife's dog training club (which no longer exists).

i regged money.com through NS but never paid for it, so i lost it...
ha..not really. my first reg was a hyphenated .net. boy was i duummb. not only that but i thought the only names with registering were brand type domains, thinking a generic would never stick in someones mind.
My first one was in 1998. It was katemoennig. net (because the .com was unavailable) and it was a fan site for an actress. It started as nothing more than a few articles and a photo gallery, but expanded and was my side project over the course of 7 years. It was #1 in Google and it was interesting checking the stats and hearing from visitors from all over the world (even though this actress wasn't that famous, relatively speaking). I'd (stupidly) never monetized the site and received an advertising inquiry in '06, but it was around that time that I let the renewal lapse, and a few months later when I tried to get it back, Enom wanted $1200 for it. Lesson learned.
It's no longer an interest of mine, but I get nostalgic thinking about those early days. And of course, I wish I would have had the sense to start hand-regging single-word domains back then. Oh well, live and learn.![]()
Hulablu. com. Was thinking of a brandable name for a company. Ended up dropping the domain after I came up with a better sounding one.
Craybbs.co.uk in 1998. Because I was running one of the biggest Fidonet boards in the UK (The Cray BBS) and was the UK gateway between Fidonet's Echomail and Usenet from that upstart Internet thingy that would never amount to much![]()
sex.com but let it expire............................................ .................................................. .............................i wish ;-)
TimeToTakeControl.com Was in an IPO and thought I would make $15,000,000 in 4 years. It failed and then I started to look at the net. Irony is the IPO was a fiber optic company.
Buyond.com PennyBay.com TraVoila.com URLjournal.com Caribbein.com GreenIndices.com URLty.com NO2CO2.org Grateez.com BiggestTicket(s).com
A friend of mine, told me to buy Cuba .net from him around 1999, I think he owned it a couple of years. I later sold it to the present owner, who I knew. Just keeps getting around this Cuba.net.
Any offers on these 2 domains, Prairieprovinces.ca/com

My first domain consisted of my initials and last name. I registered it in 1999 through Network Solutions, when domains were something like $80 per year and you could register online and send your payment through the mail. Shortly before the .com boom really took off, I remember watching Screw .com selling on ebay, completely oblivious to the adult potential. I kept thinking "Why would someone buy a screw on the internet when they can just drive a few miles to a hardware store?" I think the domain sold for something like $30,000.
Several top tier names were sold in such a manner in the days of old. My first success as a domainer was buying BrainStimulant (.com) on eBay and then flipping it. I rolled the profits into buying and flipping Grasshopper (.org) and the rest is history.

back in 1998 i remember i registered a domain name for my dad which is what got me in this business in the first place! he's had plenty of offers on the name because it's a very popular first name .com yet he maintains control of it to date, guessing it's going to be part of the inheritance in his will by the looks of things...
