who DOESNT recommend godaddy ? ?

Ive heard some people DONT recommend GoDaddy for domain registration.

Just woundering wrong with registering with godaddy?

    what are the disadvantages?

do they have problems/a bad reputation?

What problems have you had with them? share them plz.....

and if domains are registered thru godaddy, is it secure? (they don't mess you around in anyway do they?)

They rip you off, they spam you, they take your money without permission, and their support staff are monkeys... Simple.

I do not have this issue with them as I steer clear of these types of names, but I have heard if you have TM's and typos of TM's they will bend over backwards to assist the tm holder...and charge you for the inconvenience.

I personally have most of my names there.

When I say monkeys, I mean crap support.. The suggestion is that I would actually rather have a monkey reply to my emails than a member of GoDaddy staff

Id suggest moniker if you want security... but overall dynadot.

I went for moniker, and wish I went for dynadot. Moniker are not bad, they simple keep your names secure but do nothing more...

Nothing more important than name security, phone support is good too, ticket support is getting better all the time, and the interconnected Selling platform is growing too.

I did have some wacky DNS stuff/change happen a while back that I didn't do.(upgrades or something of the sorts)
But with bulk options on domains had it fixed in about 5 mins.

GoDaddy is pricey, so is dynadot for that matter at $9.00+ per name and those prices are only going up over time.

So I don't use godaddy and move all names I acquire from GD as they expire to Moniker.

GoDaddy is alright but not my preferred (moniker) as their interface is so long winded- they are so aggresive with their upselling of vaguely related products -
    "Look wait, yourdomainname.me
    yourdomainname.mobi
    yourdomainname.otherjoketld

are available! do you want to add them now to your basket? *for 10 years reg on all?"
Overall though, you could do a lot worse than GD.

I would have to agree. You could do a lot worse, however there are several better choices. I use Moniker and have been testing out Fabulous (although I haven't figured out how to use URL forwarding with Fabulous which is what is stopping me to register/transfer more names until I do).

Overall, if Godaddy did away with the 60-day rule, improved their email support (never tried phone support), and offered competitive pricing without the use of a coupon code that expires every week or yearly fee, I think I would move some names back with them. It just appears they are out to nickel and dime everyone with there different type of fees. Not to mention the bad PR they have had about them.

So true, like some of the back-woods registrars that backorder companies put your domain with or 1&1.

My two main annoyances with GD:

Pages of add-ons and add-ons. If I want them, I'll get them myself and each time I go to my domain manager, it opens a new window. before I know it, I have 20 windows open and my system is choked.

    And ...
they disable domains by removing the DNS on a spam/hack *complaint* without actually checking, and charge $300 to put the nameservers back. they illegally prevent transfers to other registries
they upsell so much and so hard that people get conned into buying thinsg they dont need
and the worse "feature" of all if you're "reselling" - they contact your clients directly and try and sell them other services.

In the fast few years - no problem for me with GD. Finally, I move all the domains to my own GoDaddy reseller account to get my own commissions -LOL.

It's obvious that there will be issues with one once in a while when they are handling more than 26 million domains and Hosting almost ~20 million domains with them.

I am really admire the way GD has grown in few years from nothing to #1 registrar and # hosting (branded as WildWestDomains) - it will take a lot of work to beat them in the near future.

    Cheers,

I recommend GoDaddy for the most part of your domains.
Only for high-value domains I recommend another registrar.

I have a few hundred names with GD which I am starting to move to Fabulous. The main reason for initiating this move is the slowness of their domain manager, it simply just takes to loooooong to complete any operation. Why this is I do not know but I suspect there is just a way to much promotional stuff on the page.

I had a few Website to-night accounts with them, but dropped due to slowness. This was the same reason for dropping my Hosting account.

Their support I believe is great, email a bit slow, direct calling better. The majority of support people know their stuff and are willing to get help if they do not know the complete answer. Recently I have been in contact with GD support in regards with the the latency problems, but no solution yet.

I believe some of this latency problems are from my end, but when I go to other sites and have no problems I tend to blame the GD site.

My bottom line is that I love the service I receive from Fabulous, They might not provide all that GD provides, but they give me all that i need at a speed I require.

GoDaddy is my favoriate because the interface for working with my domains is easy to use and reliable. Many registrars have a strange user interface with some information hidden, they just dont care about making it clearer. Enom also has a good interface for this; using folders, making changes to dns, etc. And godaddy gives a good price. Service is very fast, the best i have found for responsiveness. If your rep cant help you, they have people there that they can ask.

But I agree with Carter, I would not recommend any large business keep their domains at Godaddy. The godaddy dns update can take days, and there is no reason for it. Enom updates almnost immediately. Godaddy wants you to land on their parking pages for a day or two. We could call it "Parking Float". Also, when you buy domains at godaddy, some of them 'mysteriously' do not get your default dns but become more godaddy parking pages; I have reported it but they dont seem to care about this particular 'bug'.

I have never loved GoDaddy's interface, and it got worse when they recently revised it - takes me more keystrokes to get my account data up when my browser has been idle for a while.

Also, I don't enjoy playing the coupon game, even though it means that less-knowledgeable domain registrants are sort of subsidizing my registrations.

They also call me now and then to make sure that I really plan to let a bunch of domains expire. I always tell them that yes, that is my plan, but it doesn't stop them from repeatedly calling.

On the plus side, I'm usually happy with their .info prices.
See my domains, grouped by category, at BetterDomains.net - reseller offers welcome!

Follow me at Facebook or Twitter - I'm "BetterDomains" at both places.

I also plan to let a lot expire. So you and I are good at 'planning'.

They email me, not call, you can prob get the calls reduced. I have a ton of domains expiring, its bad.

I also host at www.Shanje.com, which costs a lot more than GoDaddy, but is less responsive for some reason. But godaddy shared Hosting has a lot of restrictions for what software you can use; you have to have dedicated hosting to have more choices but that might be true of a lot of places.

I used to prefer enom over GoDaddy.

Now godaddy is cheaper and has better support.

The killer for me is that the pages are so slow, especially when my connection goes down to 30kbps - then the system is practically unworkable and I have to wait until the morning to do whatever I want to do (DNS changes, requesting EPP codes etc).
