Perhaps there is a way to create a fun hockey pool?
Maybe just during the playoffs?

That's a great idea. The season is way to long itself but I'm sure we can get something going come playoff time.
Yeah that will be a blast!!!
As long as the Rangers are in the playoffs!!!!!...![]()
The brackets won't work because each series is not determined beyond the first round.
The lowest remaining seed plays the highest seed - therefore no second round games are guaranteed
playoffs pool sounds good...I'll start studying now.
Certainly.
Not at all hard to construct.
You know at the end of the regular season who will be in the playoffs.
You know in the first round who will play who.
You start there, with the first round of playoffs.
Forget there is no guarantee of advancing. That is the point. YOU PICK THE WINNER OF THAT ROUND TO ADVANCE ON TO THE NEXT ROUND. If seven beats one then good for you if you picked them. That's the point - guess right!
You do this for each first round match-ups.
Then onto round two. Pick the winner of those match ups.
And so on and so on for each round. You WANT TO PICK right in each round ALL IN ADVANCE AT THE START OF THE PLAYOFFS ALL THE WAY TO THE WINNER OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP.
The tie breaker for the Finals is usually two questions : 1.) who wins/how many games (such as Penguins 4 games to 3) and 2.) final score of the final game (2-1).
You hope that you have guess right up to the final round. Even if you missed a couple in the early rounds, perhaps others did too. If you picked the Penguins to go all the way, then you still have a chance to win the pot.
It is just like the NCAA with the exception of the NCAA tournament is single game elimination.
It is fun, easy to set up, easy to play, and basically winner take all.
If the playoffs for the Western Conf are:
1. Colorado
2. Anaheim
3. Chicago
4. Detroit
5. Los Angeles
6. Minnesota
7. Edmonton
8. Vancouver
1 vs 8
2 vs 7
3 vs 6
Let us say 1 wins, 7 wins, 6 and 5 win so then:
1. Colorado vs. 7. Edmonton
and
5. Los Angeles vs. Minnesota
If you were to make the brackets up, 1 8 would play 4 5 and 3 6 would play 2 7, but in this case above this didn't happen so the 2nd round matchup will be incorrect based on us filling out brackets as such..
The brackets are not set the same as college bb
Trust me, it works, its simple, and I have played it numerous times.
It is simply a matter of formatting the brackets based on the playoff format, irregardless of the number of teams and rounds. There will also be a round where two teams face each other.
Having two conferences makes it easy.
Here is last year's format:
It makes it easier if the Eastern Conference is on the right and the Western Conference is on the Left. That way it is very easy to see the progression of each conference.
Points are are accumulated based on each team picked correctly and value of each round:
Round 1 winners: 1 point each
Round 2 winners: 2 points each
Round 3 winners: 3 points each (semi-finals)
Round 4 winner: 4 points (final)
So picking all First Round winners would be 8 winners x 1 point = 8 points
Picking all Second Round winners would be 4 winners x 2 points = 8 points
Picking the winner of the Semi Finals would be 2 winners x 3 points = 6 points
Picking the Champion will be 4 points.
So the total points possible is 26 points if you happen to pick every winner.
The entire tournament is filled out and submitted prior to the first round of games.
It is possible to miss a couple in the first round and get the rest correct and still win.
I have never seen anyone pick each winner correctly.
Hey at least we have plenty of time to figure it out..lol
If anyone else has any suggestions please let us know but I have seen it done the way Doc is suggesting and believe it works fine.
thats the way to do it, works like a charm.
oh i'll be there for sure!!!
