    Hostgator needs my password?

I'm trying to cancel my Hosting account with hostgator via their cancellation form and they need my password to do this. I confirmed this with the livechat too.

Is this legit? Anyone have any issues after giving them your password?

Hostgator is a good Hosting company. They also ask for the password when you are in an online chat with them and they have to look deeper at the issue for support. If worried about it, most people just change the password immediately after the chat. Since you are closing your account with them, don't see the need for any concern, but I may be missing something.

I'd be more surprise if they DIDN'T require a password to close an account.

I did change the password before I gave it to them, but it just seemed weird considering the #1 warning most websites give you is that they will never ask for your password.

I've cancelled many subscriptions on the internet and as long as I was able to log into my account, I could do it on my own. Never had to send my password to some 3rd party.

This is definitely a normal procedure there -- nothing to worry about.

If you do cancel with your password, it will not be the end of it. They will hound you and when you no longer answer your phone they refuse to cancel your account. I don't really care because I no longer have the credit card that they have the number for.
What a PAIN IN THE ASS they are.
