Register Today on DNForum IT'S FREE!We have installed an update to the dropsystem.co.uk dropcatching script for hosted clients.
It allows you to poll the DAC in two different ways - rotational and singular.
This option is configurable by changing the 'Poll Type'
setting under 'Dropcatching Setup' within the GUI.
When set to 'Rotational' your script will poll the DAC with each name
from your catch list; in turn, until it reaches the end of the catch
list, at which point it will rotate through the catch list again
starting from the first entry ... and so on and so forth. This setting
is recommended for very short lists -- one or two domains. Unlike the
'Singular' option (see below), it is not necessary to prioritise your
catch list.
If you set Poll Type to 'Singular' your script behaves quite
differently. It will poll the first name in your catch list and will
continue to do so until the name drops. When the first name drops the
next will be loaded. There's no guarantee that this next name will be
still available as it may have dropped whilst polling the first name
-- if it has already dropped then you will be notified of the failiure
and the next domain in your catch list will be loaded and polled for
... and so on and so forth.
So with this 'Singular' option set, you are only ever polling for one
domain at a time. We recommend using this setting if you are trying
to catch larger (>2) names as it gives you a more weighted chance of
securing a single name. When using singular polling you must give
thought to how you structure your catch lists, making sure that you
prioritise from the top-down (highest priority first). This ability to
prioritise ensures that your most valuable names are polled first.

Dale
