Domaining : Researching your domain names.

Let me first start out by listing a few things that all newbies and people who have started domaining should remember. “Don’t ever make the mistake of following the big ones”.Let ‘s take an analogy.If you are learning swimming and the very first day you go into the deep sea and jump you are sure to drown.So start small and look at places no one else is looking.Domaining is such a wide field and if you are looking at the right places you are sure to make a profit.The profit may be small at first but if you do 100 small deals your profit will be immense.

So lets list down some main points in researching your domains.
1)Think outside the box.
If you look past the .com names there are the other extension.But what catches our eye in particular is the numeric domains.Although sometimes numeric domain can become hard to sell but if you have your eyes on the right ones you may make a quick profit.Most big players that I converse do not look into numeric domains and hence they are good for flipping.
I did a study last year on numeric domains and concluded with following findings.

• The biggest winner was the .us extension which had definately multiplied over 2 years.From an early 2006 price of 20 US dollars they had gone to around 120 which is six times the price . ***
• However considering the rise, the .net extension had definately multiplied 4 times .In consideration the .com has surged from a 2500 $ to 7500 $ in 2 years.***
• It must also be noted that the value of the .us extension numeric domains has dropped in past 1 year. Also the domain registry holds a great number of .us numeric domains so the value of these names will go up in future.***

***These prices may not be recent but they definitely showed the trend of the numeric domains.

2) Thinking developed sites.
While everyone will tell you that it is a tad bit late to enter domaining no one will ever tell you the truth.No one will tell you that domaining is like a circular room with an entry from the middle.No matter when you enter you still have a whole lot room of opportunities to make money.
For example a lot of my friends use the DRT to find traffic names , buy them and then sell them at a profit to lot of buyers on Dnforum.com. DRT(Domain research tool) which can be bought at a discounted price through dnforum is a tool worth spending the money.It will give you a whole lot of information like domain advertisers , keywords,overture, availability , creation date and a whole lot of other info.While this info can be derived from any other website DRT makes it easy to do a bulk lookup.You can do 50K queries at one go and then filter the names based on your preferences.
Developed sites can be bought at a reasonable price and then parked for a month. When you have enough stats you can put them at sale at various domaining forums.My personal experience suggests releasing them at Dnforum first and if it does not sell then trying other domaining forums.Usually people will pay 12 times to 60 times the revenue of the month. For example if your domain earns 100 $ in a month you may get anywhere from a 1K to 60K depending upon the type of domain and the nature of the domain.For just a developed site the sale price could be way smaller but for a generic traffic name this could go a lot higher.

3) Keep a tab everywhere.
While it is not necessary to look at a lot of place it is important that you keep an eye at all auction websites for example snapnames , sedo , Bido , namedrive,godaddy. A lot of good domains are often put up for sale at these sites at a laughable price.If you are keen and looking you will find a good bargain everywhere.

4) Getting to Know domainers.
Networking is the most important part of domaining.Knowing people , helping them and in some cases becoming a follower can become useful. For example various good domaining blogs like dotsauce.com , dotweekly.com by spade(member at dnforum) and a whole lot of other blogs can help you develop researching tactics. Dotweekly gives good advice on researching domains in particular.Attending local chapeters for example Melbourne domainers get together in Hawthorn happening infrequently is a good way to know other people.

5) Domaining.
The final thing to great research and domains is domaining itself.If you spend 24 hours domaining systematically and keep to it you will see the benefits flowing in straightaway.While it is not advisable to do it but reading , reading and reading is the most important factor.
